Error when I record

I only started using audition a few weeks ago, but over the last two days something really weird is happening when I press record. When I hit the button, the bar starts moving in a stuttering way, and any audio I record doesn't show up on the screen, like the bar is just moving without any recording actually happening. In other words, when I hit record, audition starts "recording" but doesn't actually show any input, and there's nothing on the playback except a jolt of sound at the beginning. It's not a problem with my microphone (I tested this a few times), and the audio hardware and audio channel mapping settings are all in the right place. I tried resetting audition to default settings, but it didn't solve the issue. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and it still didn't work. If anyone else has had this issue and has figured out how to fix it, please let me know!

Hi,

just to be safe you also had chosen the right Input Device in Audition in the Config Tab?! Also the right Encoder/Driver (e.g. MME or WASAPI)? Hope that helps.

The first thing you should try is going to Edit>Preferences>General and the fifth item down is about hardware acceleration. If it's on, turn it off - and vice versa - and try again. It does sound though as if something has suddenly started using a lot of resources where it wasn't before - also try making sure that nothing else is running in the background.

Hi,

Jumping in because I'm having the same issue and switching to WASAPI did fix the recording/freezing problem, but now the audio I record sounds distorted. Do you know why?

Thanks,

Emily

I am also facing similar issues but again very strange ones.

1: When we press recording in new audio file session, it just moves by getting stuck every 1 second. ( kind of a blocked movement)
And nothing gets recorded after we stop recording.

2: In mutitrack session, If I start recording a vocal for a karoeke, that also behaves in the same way in the second track.
I found a work-around for this like this: Start the playback of the karoke first, then press record prepare button and record button after few seconds. In this case it is getting recorded.
3: I tried these two, but no luck.

"WASAPI"  and  Edit>Preferences>General
WASAPI worked for recording but the audio I record sounds distorted again.

Tried all these with different microphones also. But there is no luck.

And it works fine in Audacity and other recoding tools.
So there is no issue found from system side I assume.

Some help in this will be really great as it is been long time issue for me.

Try increasing the buffer size in the Edit>Preferences>Audio Hardware settings box. Sounds like it could be way too small. WASAPI should make no difference - in theory it only affects replay. The other thing you should do is to move your temp file location to a folder of its own (not shared with the OS), ideally on a drive that doesn't have the system on it, and try Waveform recording again.

Also you should check that nothing else is going on on your machine that can steal processing power. The two main culprits here are WiFi polling, and anti-virus software; they can make a mess of anything!
