Fade In and Out effects are grayed out, won't work

All of a sudden I cannot Fade In or Out in Audition. Under Clip-->Fade In all of the options (No Fade, Fade In, Crossfade, etc) are grayed out. None of them are working. Likewise for Clip-->Fade Out, same problem. Currently running Audition Build 12.1.4.5. All of my Favorite Effects disappeared at the same time, but I will write up a 2nd post for that. Help!

Found Audition 3 on another site and it installs like a dream BUT the serial number they provide is incorrect.

For me it's a little like having an old friend back.

When you're in multi-track mode and the two clips are on the same track, is there a way to make one track opaque so that I can slide it over the underneath track in an attempt to roughly match peaks then fine tune the match by zooming in ?

I realize this thread is two years old but - WTF?  I'm an old man, adimittedly, but I could have SWORN this worked fine for me with a single track just a few months ago.  I'm using the Adobe beta for Audition, but did this change with that?  This thread seems to indicate it's been changed for a long time but, again, I was using a pretty current version of Audion and was able to do this just fine this year for sure.  BTW - this is completely stupid.  You DO need to fade out a single track and making it into a multi track is both a waste of time and needlessly confusing.  I may have to look around for other solutions after a decade of work with Audition.

No, it's always been like this. Waveform view fades on single tracks are easy - you use the HUD. That may be what you're getting confused with!

The HUD?  Okay, as I said, I'm an old man but what the hell is that?  (Heads Up Display is the normal abbreviation).  Honestly, my fingers (which - again, old - usually just "remember" how to do things) could not even get started on the fade out and going to the menu did not help.

The HUD is in the View menu, but it's slightly misleading to say that this is what you use really, as there's an even simpler way using the fade handles on the track itself, and it's very flexible. It looks like this (ringed in red):

You can drag this about, and it will put variable fades onto your track that are outlined in yellow: If you drag the mouse down you can change the linear value and have a pretty steep fade if you want. Works the other end of the track too.
