I did the recommended update today and began having problems with Audition. I needed to resize the window and it kept crashing. So I went to the CC app and reverted to the prior version. And then all my presets and preferences were gone. I then updated again and the resizing works fine, but my preferences are still gone.
There is no way I can recreate everything! Is there any way to get my presets and preferences back? I made all kinds of custom effects.
Thanks for your help,
Susan
Not if you didn't save copies of your Audition settings before reverting to a previous version. When you install Audition from scratch it creates a new default Settings folder which would have overwritten the one with your custom settings. Which versions of Audition were you swapping backwards and forwards between? There is a possibility that the old Settings folder was retained if you were moving between versions with completely different version numbers like 10.0.1 and 11.0.2 for instance.

Under the Files menu when Audition is open you will find that Application settings can be imported and exported from the Import/Export branch of the menus. Try clicking on the Import option and see if you can see any of your old Settings folders to re-import from there or by going up a folder level. If not I'm afraid that they are gone. So once you get some of them set up again do an Export/Application Settings to somewhere safe for the future if anything else happens.

Thanks. That is very helpful. I had actually done screen shots of my presets, so I was able to recreate them. I'm a bit confused though. If I save a custom preset, like a Hiss Reduction Process, that is saved as part of the application settings xml file and not the presets?
And I did just export the app settings xml file right now!
Thank you for your help.

Sorry, my bad. I had confused Exporting/Application Settings with a non existent Export/Audition Settings. Also there is confusion because the Import/Application Settings allows you to select any of the settings .xml files including Effects Presets to import. Export only seems to do the Application Settings.xml file which is how Audition is set up when you open it but none of the other settings files.
Maybe we need a new feature request for all Audition's settings to be Exported although, of course, you can do this manually yourself by copying the Settings folder somewhere safe.

Not if you haven't backed up your Audition Settings folder I'm afraid which, like most computer files/folders, is a sensible thing to do from time to time and particularly before updating your software.

Did you check to see if you had an older version (rather than build) of your Audition's settings folder? Unless you deliberately uninstalled an earlier version of Audition it's settings folder should still exist.

Dear Sir,
After I opened the installation of Audition 3 that I had at the time &
found that there were no settings & preferences saved in the various panels
- I panicked not a little and so reinstalled several times from a setup
files previously downloaded (still no saved prefs or settings appearing in
the reinstalled program no joy!
I had guessed that all the reinstalls would have screwed up fubar-ed such a
folder. But that is just my assumption that such a folder you mention can
not still exist with my saved preferences possible to recover. So please
advise where such folder might be found and what would be the title for to
search in my main drive please?

This thread was referring to Audition CC. Audition 3 had a completely different method of saving customised settings. So none of the info above applies I'm afraid. However a re-installation of AA3 would bring back all the default FX and presets that are normally available. Custom settings will have disappeared for ever though.

Ok thank you ryclark for your info/advice and your quick response!
I'm building back some of my preferences but I have little idea how
Multiband Compressor works so it is challenging to reconfigure settings for
example 'enhance high' 'enhance low' and kill the harshness. Can anyone
help me with this?
