Help With Setup - Win10 and M-Track Quad

Hi...brand new to the online Audition experience - have been using the program for yearsandyearsandyears. I'm having two major issues - maybe related, maybe not. BTW, this is a brand new computer, too, which is why I opted to move to the online version of Audition. I have the current driver for the M-Track installed and the computer tests for mic and speakers works.

1. Won't record. Cursor doesn't move - error message says "Device sample rates do not match. Please check the audio hardware preferences." I've poked around the forum and in Audition and am not sure where to look for "audio hardware setup" as I'm not finding those words anywere. In the waveform view I've gone to Edit >Preferences>Audio Hardware. Am I looking in the wrong place? I can find the M-Track there and have selected it - I see nowhere to look for driver selection or the "release Asio driver in the background" checkbox.
2. The program is exceptionally unstable. So far, in the space of half an hour, I've had to force it closed four times when it froze or greyed out options I needed, like the entire side menu when selecting Preferences.
Help!! And thanks in advance for your assistance...happy Wednesday!

Well the first thing I have to ask you is - what driver model are you using? MME or ASIO? Or a Mac? If it's Windows, and you are using MME then Windows is controlling your sound device, and if you don't try to record using identical settings, you get that message. Here's a non too fancy drawing of what you have to alter, so that when you use the same settings in Audition, it will work:

Set Sound Device Properties.JPG

Obviously you have to use the correct device, but this is what all needs to be set to the same sample rate, at least.
