Hey everyone,
I'm in a bit of a pickle. My temp folder was acting up, so I followed the advice in thread I found here on this forum that said I should reset Audition to its "vanilla preferences". So I started up Audition while holding down "shift". After I had done this Audition asked me if I wanted to reset everything to my 9.0 settings and I clicked "yes" - what I didn't know what that it removed all the new presets I had made. So now I'm in a really bad situation where tons and tons of presets are gone.
I've noticed that my Library/Preferences/Adobe/Audition/10.0 folder is still there and in that folder there is an Effect Rack folder. It's empty though but it's also empty in the 9.0, 8.0, and 7.0 folders. So I was kinda hoping that I could get Audition to look at the settings that should still be there in the 10.0 folder. I've attached a screenshot so you can see what I mean
Does anyone know if this is possible? Or have I seriously lost all my presets? I mean, hopefully Audition doesn't overwrite files simply because you revert it to its "vanilla preferences"... right?

All your custom effects presets are actually stored in the EffectPresets.xml file rather than the EffectPresets folder I believe.

I think you're right
I did a little digging myself and I found out that you're able to import application settings, so I tried importing the EffectPresets.xml file from my 10.0 folder, but unfortunately it showed me this error:
"The file EffectPresets.xml could not be imported as applications settings due to an unknown error".
I also tried copying over the 10.0 EffectPresets.xml file into the 9.0 folder but it didn't help

This may be a bit of a nightmare if you have valuable presets & settings and no system backup of your computer. Adobe should rethink this: holding down shift shouldn't blow away all your user data, just bypass it. But it sounds like your valuable info went to cyber-purgatory. Hope you have a backup of your computer, but who does?

Yeah, luckily I've been able to recreate the ones I've had to use since they all disappeared. But it can still be a potential nightmare if I can't remember my old chains.
I'm surprised that there aren't easier ways to export your presets/chains? At my old work it was a bit of a hassle to have to copy each other's chains, because we had to read them out loud to each other from across the studios.
Oh well, I guess the lesson is to make a backup of the EffectPresets.xml file before updating and or resetting the program

Precisely!!!
Anyone from Adobe want to comment about preset management? Do we need to make a feature request?

I'm in the same boat as you after doing the update the other day. Opened up after updating the night before and clicked on the 9.0 dialog without thinking it thru.
My next move is to see if an uninstall, reinstall and not choosing 9.0 might get me back to where I was a few days ago.
I have a feature length film in it's final stages that kinda got screwed here. Sure, all my work is still there but I need to make new preset saves on a tons of clip-centric effects chains.
Doh!

Hello to the community. The Adobe Audition version I use is AU-3 which was released in 2007 and is no longer supported. I would upgrade to the latest version but am not in favour of renting the program but would be very happy to purchase! I have the same problem re' lost presets - those that come with the program I mean. Some are still there oddly, but others are completely blank in the effects dropdown fields.I also read that re-setting holding the Shift key would restore these, but if this does work - ? - does it also remove every 3rd party VST I have installed also? I wonder if anyone might have the presets in a file they could email to me as a zip file. I could rhen drop those into the effects folder in the program I guess. Other than this, I don't know how to get the presets back. I still own the original 2 disc software, so would this enable me to make a repair, rather than a re-install? Thanks in advance.
