Im simply trying to use a USB mic to record vocals into Audition.
The mic physically works fine on its own in other apps and I see a signal indication in the Mac Systems Preferences.
But in Audition, Im getting nothing. No evidence of a signal.
Also when I try to use built in Input mic on this iMac, I get NO signal levels.
What am I missing here?
Is there a hidden preference in Audition that "turns on" audio input?
Please advise.
Thanks.
I discovered the answer I was looking for.
One simply needs to click on the Record button which is in the left-hand side of the individual track’s interface that you are trying to record with the microphone onto. It’s a very small inobtrusive button, but it is very critical.
It is a small square button with the letter R in the middle of it.
Without that being turned on first, no microphone input works at all.
Problem solved.

The correct audio input for Audition has to be set in Audition's Preferences/Audio Hardware set up page. Normally Audition should default to whatever you have set as your default audio device for your computer. However this may not be correct for what you want to record from. The following YouTube video shows how to set up your mic for Audition.

Hi Ry,
Thanks for the suggestion.
I wish that did work as it should.
I have already watched that video and a couple of others as well as explored as many threads as I could find.(Most of which are frighteningly outdated.)
Still no signal whatsoever in Audition.
A little background:
The Samson C03U mic I have connected works flawlessly right now with Garageband and Adobe Premier.
There is nothing wrong with it.
As I mentioned, I get no input signal, even from the internal mic in my iMac when using Audition.
I DO get playback from a background music track in the multi-track Audition file I am working in. So I know audio does come out of the app on my system. It's just that the input function is acting like it is shut off even though everything is set correctly.
Disappointing.
Makes me want to bag the whole idea of using Audition and just go back to using Garageband.
Like most things from Apple, they just WORK.

Thank you! I've been having the same issue for weeks everyone kept telling me to go to preferences -> audio hardware/ channel mapping and nothing worked. But clicking the R was all I needed to do!

If you're trying to record in the waveform view and can't get levels from the mic it's with your preferences. I made a video on how to solve that problem https://youtu.be/qRHk77Jm3Is
