Move waveforms into multitrack file

I'm pulling old four-track tape recordings into waveforms in Audition. Once I have waveforms recorded, how do I get them into multitrack files? I've tried copy/paste and exporting.

If I understand you correctly, what you need to do is create a multitrack session (see "New" under the "File" menu) and, once the session is open, you then open your waveform files, which will then appear in the File window of your multitrack session. From there, you can drag them into the track(s) and time location you want.
