The stability issues with Noise Reduction have been fixed as of the Audition 10.1.1 release on May 17, 2017. Please update Audition or visit May Update for Audition CC 2017.1 | Creative Cloud blog by Adobe for more information.
Many of you have updated to Audition 10.1.0 have discovered an error or possible crash when using Audition's Noise Reduction effect. The issue has to do with a late change made to effect preset migration, but is easily avoidable until an update patch has been tested and released. Effectively, make certain the "Default" preset is selected when beginning to use the Noise Reduction effect, then adjust the settings as you like. Custom presets, or legacy parameter states, may cause the error code or instability.
Issue
The error message "Noise reduction in Audition has stopped working" may be seen in Audition CC 2017 (Build 10.1.0.174). This could also lead to a crash in certain situations.
Solution 1: Choose the Default preset when beginning a noise reduction task
When opening the Noise Reduction effect to begin cleaning up a recording, make sure the “Default” option is selected in the Preset dropdown box at the top of the effect window. Any existing noise reduction presets may cause the error or in some cases, cause Audition to crash, until an update is available.
Solution 2: Backup and Remove existing presets file
If you do not have custom effect presets for other effects, you can prevent this problem by moving or deleting the file which stores the effect presets and force Audition to recreate the default presets.
To backup and remove the former Effect presets, follow these steps.
For Windows OS
1. Close Adobe Audition.
2. Open Windows Explorer.
3. Type %APPDATA%\Adobe\Audition\10.0\and press Enter.
4. Rename or delete the file EffectPresets.xml.
For macOS
1. Close Adobe Audition.
2. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
3. In the Go To Folder dialog box, type ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Audition/10.0.
4. Click Go.
5. Rename or delete the file EffectPresets.xml.
Solution 3: Fallback to a previous version of Audition
You can also install the previous version of Adobe Audition. If you would like to install the previous version, please follow the steps provided here.
