Hello, The audio from audition is no longer working, with no indication as to the issue. I've tried several fixes and none have worked. I even tried deleting and reinstalling, as well as using an older version and it didn't work.

Please help, as no solution has worked thus far. I made a previous post detailing the issue more thoroughly, but it has had no interaction.

Thank you

It is worth keeping the same question in one thread rather than creating a new one. Could you give more detail to your issue? Can you not hear audio played within Audition but you can hear it outside of Audition?

There's a lot more detail on the original post, so I've merged it with this one. Incidentally, I have absolutely no idea what is causing this behaviour (except that it might be OS-related), especially as it appears to be random - hence no reply.

I've been using adobe audition for years for voice-over work, and there always seems to be an issue that randomly happens. This time, it's the audio playback. For one of my monitors, I use a TV and use its speakers for my playback. I've done this for years with no issue. Then suddenly it stopped working. I checked the audio hardware settings, changed my playback to my audio interface, and used the headphones I use to listen to the monitor of my recording, and it worked for the playback...But, when I closed the program and came back to work on my project, it also stopped working suddenly, with no indication of what the issue was.

So, now the playback for my TV and my audio interface is no longer working. The XLR mic I use, on the same audio interface, works fine. It can record (I can see the waveforms)but there is absolutely no playback. I went to see if the audio mapping was an issue; everything was in order, and nothing was different. I checked my audio drivers (I use MME, but I also tried ASIO and WASAPI. The latter I never use normally), and nothing seemed to solve the issue. I am not the most tech-savvy, so when things like this happen, it's bewildering to me, especially because there has literally been no change on my part, not even an update to my system.

My previous issues of having random static were solved by switching the USB cable for my audio interface to a different port on my PC. Every time this happens (which, again, happens randomly with no change on my part) I just switch ports again. With my monitor, there is no USB port because it uses a HDMI. The playback works for literally every other thing I use my system for, just not Adobe. I went into my system setting and made sure they recognized my TV as the default, and it was, just like how it was set before.

If anyone can shed some light on a fix for this problem, or at the very least, why Adobe does this, it would be awesome. I have these projects due soon, and it would be super annoying if I had to keep exporting it as an MP4, listening to it, writing time stamps for corrections, and just hoping it's correct.

I would provide a screenshot, but I am uncertain that would help.

Thank you so much for your time!

From what I understand, you can't hear the audio when playing from Audition but can if you play the file outside.

Could you screenshor the settings in - Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware...

If you change your Default Output to something else, like your computer speakers or a headset you plug in, does the audio work with them?

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, that is correct.

When I change my default output to any other speaker, it still doesn't work in audition. It's odd, because it happened to the TV speakers and then I used a pair of headphones through my audio interface, and it worked, but when I closed my session and tried to use my headphones again, it stopped working. Now nothing I've tried has worked. I also tried some old Logitec speakers, and it didn't work.

Here is the screenshot, I hope this can shed some light on it.

Thanks again.

Often troubleshooting does involve trial and error to try find the cause of the problem. Your situation is odd. Since you can play audio outside of Audition, we know it is something specific to Audition. Have you tried disconnecting your TV (while outside of Audition) and then opening Audition to see if it can play audio through your speakers or headset? This is a guess to see whether having the TV connected is causing some conflict with Audition.

I've noticed from your screengrab that the Samsung TV option uses an NVIDIA device. One thing NVIDEA are notorious for is updating their video and audio drivers, sometimes more than once a month. Whatever they change appears to be based on operating system updates, rather than anything else. Not updating the drivers has been known to cause all sorts of strange things to happen, and I'm wondering now whethe something along these lines may be the cause of these issues. As far as Audition definitely being at fault - well, it's known to to be, shall we say, somewhat 'awkward/fussy' about how things are connected to it, but this is partly because it offers rather more in the way of connectivity than other software does. Whilst it's not impossible, I do doubt whether it's at fault, simply because we haven't been overwhelmed with reports of difficulty with this.

The thing about Audition is that it does rather rely on you getting all your ducks in a row. So you need all the Windows sound options set so that the default sample rate for the device you are using is the same as the rate you are using in Audition, and within Audition itself, the system clock source set correctly. Sometimes (but not always) things improve if you put a check in the 'use machine-specific device defaults' box, so that's worth a try. What will happen sometimes is that if the sample rates don't line up, the Windows sound system will resample your output to what its default is set to - and that's not a good idea.

Thanks @SteveG_AudioMasters_ . Yes you make a good point.

When I said the fault was with Audition, I meant that it was within Audtion rather than the program being faulty. A conflict with the driver could be the issue.

I'd be interested if the audio works with the Samsung TV completely disconnected and not talking to Audition.

So to update you guys, there was no solution. I called Adobe directly, and after taking control of my PC and troubleshooting, even going into my command prompts, they could not find what the issue was. I did this twice with the Adobe agents.

So the solution they gave me was to download the beta, and they said they will try to patch whatever issue this was, even though they didn't know what was causing the lack of playback through audition or a real solution.

I'm not sure I would classify this as resolved, but it's working with the beta, so there is that, haha.

Thanks for the update. Glad the beta has given you a solution for now. Hope it can become a long term fix.
