I'm recording a single mono track long form narration next week, using Audition's punch/roll feature. What's a good way to record a safety track, separate from the Audition file? Route an output to another recording app? Another device?
My signal flow is Sound Devices MP6ii into Audition/Macbook Pro (Ventura). I realize I could record the entire session on the MP6ii, and I may do that, but hoping for a simultaneous solution that captures the punch and roll changes.
Thanks.

FWIW (and I really do this sometimes) I always record the safety track to another device. If you record it to the same device, and that's what fails, then you've lost the lot. Yes, you will lose out on the punch and roll, but at least you'll have an intact backup...

In the old days I ran a 1/4 tape to duplicate all the material being droped-in on the multitrack.

When I started, it was a high-speed Revox and a cassette recorder! (I still have the Revox)

Hmm, maybe time to pick up a Nagra? Of course, finding mag tape might be a project too🤣

Thanks, yeah, Sound Devices confirmed that my notion just isn't possible, at least not yet. So I'll record it all on the Mixpre, as well as in Audition. And I'll periodically backup the project files.
