Split File into Multiple Pieces and Insert Silence at the Same Time (Automated Way)?

Hi All,

I received a voiceover file that I need to split up into multiple files and insert silence at the beginning and end of each file.  I can do this manually, but I’d like to automate the process if possible.  It seems that this feature used to exist in Audition, but it has been reduced to just splitting the file, rather than also inserting silence.

According to the following (fairly old) Adobe blog post, this process used to be available in Audition by creating range markers spanning the areas in the file that need to be split, and pressing the "Batch Export Marker Regions" button in the Markers pane:

https://theblog.adobe.com/using_audition_to_save_section/

According to the blog post, this would create separate files for each range, and allow you the option of inserting silence into each file.  Apparently, this feature was available since Audition was named Cool Edit Pro.

Unfortunately, this button does not exist in Audition CC 2018.  There is a button called “Export Audio of selected range markers to separate files,” but it only the splits the files -- it does not give the option to insert silence at either end of the file.

Does anybody know of a workaround that isn’t completely manual, or why this feature has been deleted/weakened?  Few things are more frustrating than thinking, “There’s got to be a better way,” finding something online that says it’s possible, and then finding out that the feature is broken, has been removed, or has been reduced in functionality

Thanks for any advice!

Joe

That was way back in Audition 3 days before the code was rewritten to be cross platform compatible. Unfortunately the Add Silence function in Markers Batch Export never made it into the new versions of Audition CS or CC. You could always ask for it back as a Feature request.

Aaargh!   I'll definitely ask for it back as a Feature Request.
