I've got a decently spec'd tower computer with an i7 processor, 4 core, 16gb ram + SSD drive. On a really basic (no effects, vsts, etc) 15 lane multitrack session I'm getting really slow performance when I switch between Waveform and Multitrack view. The program hangs for a good 20-30 seconds between clicking on Multitrack and the Multitrack view actually showing.
Why is this so slow? How can I speed it up?

This is not normal behaviour by ant means. Generally it should be virtually instant. What graphics card are you using and screen resolution are you using? The rest of your system is plenty good enough to cope with anything that Audition throws at it.

Hi thanks for the response. I have an ATI Radeon 5800 with 1gb vram. I’m literally running no other programs, so it shouldn’t be an issue there either. Are there any display related settings I should check in Audition?

No display related settings within Audition. It just goes with whatever the PC has set. More recent versions of Audition can now cope with some of the super hi resolution monitors that are available. Previously on such a monitor all the icons and fonts were much too small. So I can't think of anything that would cause your problem from within Audition. You might need to run some Process Monitoring software on your PC to see what it is doing during the long pause whilst changing Audition's screen view.

Not that this helps you but I have a computer that is a fair bit less powerful than yours and the change is so fast I couldn't get an accurate time.
As ryclark says, Audition doesn't have any control over the display settings on your computer (other than things like colour schemes, contrast and so on)....it just used the settings in the control panel of your computer. Like ryclark all I can suggest is find some process monitoring software and check what your computer up to during the wait.
...and a comment from a passing developer could be useful.

Thanks for the responses guys. The weird thing is, switching to a Waveform view is fine. It's when I switch back to Multitrack where it freezes. I have the Windows Task Manager open during this process, and no indicators jump - CPU, Memory, or Disk. Everything basically stays the same (around 10% usage CPU / 34% Memory / 0-2% Disk)

Is this on one particular session or does it happen every time you create a new session?
Clutching at straws, one thing I might do is check the settings in your File/New/Multitrack Session and see if any of the defaults there are different from your source tracks or audio interface. Audition will try to convert on the fly if, for example, the sample rate of the session is different from the inputs or pre recorded tracks.
Also, if you happen to be using any personalised templates for your sessions, maybe experiment with going back to the default setting.
Beyond than I'm stumped.

Thanks everyone for your input! Turns out that the issue was I was using the MME driver for my new Soundcraft Studio 22MTK, instead of the ASIO driver! Switching to the ASIO driver fixed things!

Great to hear!
May I ask how you like the 22MTK? I'm very seriously thinking of selling my Yamaha digital mixer and replacing it with one of those due to driver issue since I had to convert to Windows 10. Also, I'm now retired and don't need all the DM1000 features any more.

The 22MTK is great for the price — but you definitely can see where they cut corners manufacturing it. Knobs are all a bit tightly spaced & wobbly, no inserts, no channel VU LEDs or meters, etc. All in all though, great sound and I don't know of anything for the price that will give you 22 channels and the flexibility it offers.
I've got a patch bay in front of mine which solves the insert problem, and generally have VU meters up on my screen. I was trying to make the choice between the Zed R16 and this, but the 22MTK won out because I was able to find one for half the price of any used Zed R16. I'm happy with it.

Thanks for the review! I rarely/never use inserts (I'm lazy enough to work "in the box"). I might miss the channel metering a litting but it's not a deal breaker.
Guess I've got to make my mind up soon...

I'm beginning to wonder now whether this isn't a manifestation of the weird 'waiting' syndrome that seems to have occurred to a few people recently - only without the message. This seems to happen most in relation to file operations, and usually puts up a 'waiting' message. No I don't know what causes this either, but I'd certainly like to know. FWIW, I'm moderately convinced that this is something that the OS is getting up to...

What can I say? This might be relevant:

In the related article I read elsewhere, it implicated SSDs as well.
Apparently it goes "Microsoft has received a small number of reports of Windows 10 freezing after installing the Anniversary Update on systems with the operating system stored on a solid-state drive (SSD) and apps and data stored on a separate drive." And that would be me...

And me. But I haven't seen this problem. However, I did deliberately delay the Anniversary Update until about a month ago. Maybe, because the "fix" mentioned in that MS article is now automatically included in the update, that's a possible reason?

I have this problem constantly and painfully with different projects, on the brand new Audition update as well. I am on a MacBook with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB and am not aware that I can change the drivers.

Same! Infuriating! Anyone have any luck troubleshooting this issue?

A lot has changed since April so it shouldn't be the same if you are using the latest 2018 version of Audition CC. Which version are you using and on what spec computer? We need more details and post it as a new bug if you are running the newest October version.
