Yes, I know this is an old topic, but none of the existing threads resolutions appear to be active any longer. I recently cloned my disk and Audition now says it cannot be activated. How can I re-activate my copy again?
Upgrading is not an option. 3.x does exactly what I need and works.

You wouldn't ever have been able to reactivate Audition 3 on a cloned disc - that's never been an option, For a long time there was a 'free' download that you could activate with an accompanying serial number, but for legal reasons that I can't go in to, that isn't available any more. So unless you can find a copy of that version and its serial number from elsewhere, I'm afraid you're stuffed, and there's nothing we can do about it.
Our original FAQ about Audition 3 (now with red warning in the first post) is here: Audition 3 and the activation service

Dang, that sucks. So, I paid for that and two upgrades (not useable) and end up with a piece of software I can no longer use, but paid for.
Let's try another tact. I still have my original drive (I was trying to migrate to an SSD). Is there anyway to move that activated copy from that drive to a new drive?
I just want the software I paid for to function like it has for many years. There should be nothing stopping Adobe from releasing a patch to correct this issue.
Using cloud based software is not an option for me.

Like I said, no there isn't. The way Audition installs itself involves all sorts of locations other than the program files. The main problem here is that it installs security features in the registry, and these are seriously buried - we have no idea where all of them are. There's a bunch of other stuff too; plain copying simply doesn't work. The only chance you stand is to make a complete clone of your original drive and run that, and even that's not guaranteed.

You might think so. Legal team says no, and we can't discuss that. It's not about the software not functioning - it works fine; it's not a patch it needs, just availability. And you never know - a search might well reveal a source of it.

I can try making a sector-by-sector clone of the drive. If that works, then I am fine with it.
I have searched for a solution to this problem and cannot find one. Posting here is a last-ditch, disparate attempt to get the software I paid for working again.
