Hi. Basically, whenever I try to do a batch rename in Adobe Bridge CC 2020 the program freezes and it doesn't rename. To shut it down I have to go to Task Manager and End Task.
Things I have tried:
- Uninstall all Adobe applications and used Adobe Cleaner
- Ctrl-Alt-Delete and cleaned preferences
- Moved files to another disk drive (including flash drive) and tried to rename there
I'm at wits end. Is there a Windows 10 security setting that might be blocking it? Ive seen mention of something like this for Mac.
Thank

Do me a favor.
Go to start/administrative menu/event viewer/windows logs/application
Find the error crash log from Bridge
Select copy/copy as text from the right panel.
Post the crash report here.

Thanks for your response. I get three responses under Event Viewer. I think these happen wht I have to End Task because it hangs on Batch Rename. They are by source "Windows Error Reporting", "Application Hang" and then another "Windows Error Reporting." I have listed all 3 below with titles.

Hi. Just following up on this as Adobe just sent me a remider on this. I'm finding alternatives to batch rename in bridge, but would rather not. It would be great to get it to work. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sorry been out for a couple of days.
Couple of things.
Looks like you upgraded to Windows 10 2004. NOT GOOD.
Update has alot of issues.
Here is your issue:Top level window is idle
Error Top Level Window Is Idle and other critical errors can occur when your Windows operating system becomes corrupted. Opening programs will be slower and response times will lag. When you have multiple applications running, you may experience crashes and freezes.
Try opening up a command prompt using "run as administrator"
Then run these two programs built into your OS
sfc /scannow
and then run
DISM.exe
If you are running Windows 10, Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, first run the inbox Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool prior to running the System File Checker.
Type the following command, and then press Enter. It may take several minutes for the command operation to be completed.
Important: When you run this command, DISM uses Windows Update to provide the files that are required to fix corruptions.
At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
Go to control panel /system/ and check everyone of your devices. Especially your Intel drivers and USB drivers.
Manually check for new drivers.

Hi. I just want to thank you for your attention here. A month ago I tried your soloution and it seemed to work. Sorry, I didn't follow-up. However, I just today the freezing began to happen again. So, I tried your solution again a few times with a combination of restarting my computer. Finally, it seems to be working again. It's just weird and frustrating.
I actually looked at my Windows update and it looks like I haven't installed the Windows 10 2004 update as it is still available to download. Although, I am up to date on all the minor updates.
After a quick Google search it seems the 2004 update is more stable? Do you think if I update it will help with running the Adobe applications like Bridge better? In general the Adobe applications are slower than on my Mac, even though spec wise my PC should be a better computer. Thanks.

OK
Good news and bad news.
I have updated two machines to 2004
One went well. A Dell XPS 13 2020 version laptop.
With new cumulative update that just came out; is working better then Windows 10 ver 1909
I have a custom made Workstation that had a Intel 903 Optane SSD internal hard drive.
Unfortunaetly Intel and Microsoft screwed up the drivers.
Spent 20 hours on the phone with Microsoft Level 3 tech support.
Hosed my entire system. Lost many apps. Had to reload ver 1909 back and reinstall everything I could.
If you elect to update you need to go into your system settinmgs and manual check each and every driver to see is its current. Don't use windows update. Manually check.
Also if you are on a laptop you need to check the properties of every driver to see if there is system power manangement control assigned to it and uncheck it. And I mean EVERY driver on your system.
Window power management is terrible.
Good luck we are all counting on you ...................

Thanks. I will give it a go...I think. My PC is one I built myself. So, will need to contemplate if I want to go through the possible pain.

Make sure your video driver is the latest version from the the video card manufacturer.
I would a;so disable your virus software, and update it after you are done.

I have the same problem, very annoying.
I read through the comments below, but not sure if there was a definitive solution that came out of them? If someone has a solution would be good to get a quick summary 🙂 thanks

I'm not sure this is the definitive answer, but it seemed to help me. Although, I had to do it a second time a couple months later after the first time.
Right now, it seems to working much better. I have a feeling this may be because Windows 10 may have released updates that have allowed it to work with various software better. My PC is fully up to date with all the major releases.
