Bridge CC not playing videos

Community Beginner ,
Dec 31, 2018 Dec 31, 2018

I have the most recent version of Bridge CC (9.0.1.216 x64).  Strangely, I opened a folder full of MP4 and MOV videos, but none of them will play in the preview window.  I only get the Loupe on the preview still image of the video.  This has never happened to me before.  I keep looking for some setting that will take me out of Loupe view, but have not found it yet.  I''ve been using Bridge for about 3 years.

Thanks to help from Avinash on the Adobe Bridge Team, the problem seems to be fixed by starting Bridge with a CONTROL+click on the icon.  In the pop-up dialog box that follows I chose to reset Bridge to default setting and purge the video cache.  After that, Bridge handled my videos correctly.

What operating system? Can you play these videos in another player?

Windows 10, 64 bit.  All the videos play correctly in every video player I've tried.

It must be just a setting somewhere that I can't find.  The preview window only displays the JPG screen cap for each video, not the video itself.

I might add, that I am indeed selecting the video in the file manager, not the JPG icon.

Just updated over the weekend to 9.0.2.219. The videos now do display as videos, but when I play them, they zoom into a resolution that cuts off all but the center of the video.  Yet more strangeness.

Media cache can be managed in Bridge preferences.

I have the same problem as described in the original post.

Fresh install of Bridge CC 2019 on Windows 10 on x64. On MP4 and other videos, only the "loupe" shows, but no video controls.

I have tried the solution to reset Bridge to default settings and purged the cache several times: no change.

I have also tried switching to software rendering only, no outcome... any ideas?

Same here.  I see thumbnails of the videos (Mp4 and .mov) but not video controls.  Should bridge be able to preview .MXF video as well?

Also had this problem.  Noticed that on a new install, the 'File Type Associations' for most video formats are set to 'None'.  I changed mine to use Adobe Premier and Bridge now allows me to preview clips.

YES! This solved it for me. Thank you for sharing.

Edit > Preferences > "File Type Associations" and I went to .mov and .mp4 and set it to Premiere Pro by hitting "Browse" and selecting the app icon.

Bridge was not playing audio files or videos files, and this did the trick.

I'm also having this problem, but even using these tips, I don't get video. Sometimes I get a still image with the loupe, and sometimes I get the audio and the controls (the play/pause, loop, and volume buttons), but no video and only a still image.

I'm running Windows 10 x64. My Bridge version is 64-bit, 10.0.3.138. I'm trying to get .MOV to play. I know that I have the codecs, because they open in several programs if I double-click them from Bridge. I've tried Windows Media Player, Windows Photos, and VLC as options in the Preferences > File Type Associations. I have a crazy-old version of Premier so while I can set the File Association to it, I don't think it actually opens the MOV. Does this work with other video programs? I only want to review them, not edit them.

I've tried everything mentioned in this discussion thread and my previews and playback still don't work. Very disappointed in Adobe.

Seems to be standard for all Adobe CC software to need to spend several days fixing everything after an update.

Just un-tick the check boxes shown below, then restart Adobe Bridge. (Windows 10)
