Bridge fully deleting files? No recycling bin?

I used to delete a file in bridge and it went in my recycling bin, now it's just gone? This is not ok. Is there any potential fix? Thank you.

Hey davidbehar!

Solutions from the community:

1. This happens to me once in awhile on the Mac too but not just in LrC.  Just Option-RightClick the Finder icon and chose Relaunch.  It will refresh the Trash.

2. To get them to show up in the trash, I create an empty folder on the drive where the photos are stored, then delete that empty folder. The empty folder goes to the trash and the photos I deleted from Lightroom show up there too.

Not sure why "Relaunch Finder" is no longer appearing, but you might try clicking the Apple logo on the menu bar, selecting "Force Quit" and choosing "Finder".

Hope this helps!

Update 2: just noticied this isn't only happening on bridge, but anywhere on the computer, so this is now an OS issue

Looks like you are on Windows? Check your C: drive for an invisible folder $Recycle.Bin that holds deleted items. If that is missing, you'll have problems. You can also check Recycle Bin Properties to see if you have set it to remove files immediately.

The Mac has Trash. And Sonoma is currently 14.4.

Network drives will not allow files to be in the Trash but rather they will be deleted immediately.

just updated to 14.4 and the issue is still here (dng files disappear when deleted instead of going into the trash). there's no network drive, just the local harddrive.

Hi David,

Thanks for verifying that it's your system and not Bridge. That saves everyone time.

Please look up how to start your Mac in Safe mode. If that doesn't work, please get a new hard drive and back up your contents IMMEDIATELY! I suspect your drive may be having issues. [Meanwhile, if you are using Apple's Time Machine, congrats; if you're not, then now's a good time to start. Well, at least as soon as you resolve what the issue is here.

Let us know what Safe mode shows.

I'd start into Recovery Mode and check the hard drive for problems.
