Bridge shows empty error message and does not start

Community Beginner ,
Jan 31, 2023 Jan 31, 2023

Hello,

I have installed Bridge on a Desktop PC with Windows 11 Pro (Version 10.0.22621) and ATI Radeon HD 6450 Graphics.

When starting Bridge, it shows an empty error message and after confirmation, there is no reaction in Bridge.

Task Manager shows status "inactive" for Bridge.

Bridge is installed in Version 13.0.2

I have uninstalled and reinstalled through Creative Cloud.

I have even tried Bridge Beta version but with no effects - same issue.

Is there a way to at least debug the error message in order to know what the issue is?

Thanks in advance

I have been having exactly the same problem for at least three weeks. Just tried another install and the problem still exists. I clicked on the 'Report to Adobe' message a couple of weeks ago but have not had anything back.

@davidc53645009 and @Marc28184531ovai can you give more info about your computer? in Photoshop, go to Help>System info, copy and paste here, you can remove the plugins section.

(you might have to wait for the message to show up)

My PC is Windows 10 Pro. I don't have Photoshop but use Bridge as my DAM.

@PECourtejoiethanks for getting back to us (and sorry for my delay)

As I'm even not able to start, I have no option to use Help>System info.

Anyway due to your hint to check the crash log I figured out how to install Adobe Crash Reporter and was now able to send a crash report directly to Adobe.
Before installing the Crash Reporter it did not show the crash report window. I'm looking forward now to get a feedback from Adobe itself.

Thanks again for your help!

@Marc28184531ovai , aren't you able to launch Photoshop as well? You might have missed the fact that that's where I directed you to grab the system info...

Make sure to add the same email address as your Adobe ID in order to link you.

I am not sure if Adobe would get back to you. If a Bridge Engineers posts here, it might be then possible.

Can you look if there is a crash log?

https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/photoshop/kb/submit-crash-reports.html

Can you also report the issue on the uservoice? https://adobebridge.uservoice.com/

I started a thread reporting the same issue a few days ago. A few people have responded but no solution so far.

In my case Bridge 13.0.2 crashes on launch, just like yours, on my desktop PC with an NVIDIA graphics card.

However on my Dell laptop with its built in Intel graphics Bridge seems to work OK.

Like you I tried the current Beta version with the same problem on the desktop machine.

Both of my computers are running fully updated Windows 10.

Really really frustrating!

@Christopher5EE1 Good point, re: nVidia card. Both Photoshop and Premiere Pro users reported issues with the december 528.24 (or it is 524.28) driver version. Some recommend to use the November Studio version, or to wait for an update.

I've had the same problem on one Windows 10 Pro PC, uninstalling and resetting prefs hasn't helped. I have access to other Windows and Mac computers and it isn't happening elsewhere. Small blank alert dialog on launch then crash, no logs generated. I was able to get some at one time and they indicated the heap (programming memory structure) was corrupted.

just wanted to post an update to this issue

We have changed the graphics card and this finally solved the issue.

Bridge is now running on that computer, which crashed before, without any issue.

Which is great but really users should be put in this postion by an update, which in many cases they didn't want or need!

Currently, for me at least, the current beta version seems to run fine without having to change my graphics card. The current full version, despite working fine on my laptop with its built in "Intel" graphics remais unusable on my desktop with the nVidia card.

Hopefully, when they get round to update the full version from 13.0.2 that will solve my problem but time will tell...

Adobe has a lot of bugs to fix in Bridge 13, which was apparently a major rewrite. I'm still using Bridge 12 in production and testing on Bridge 13 beta, I'd advise using that if you want to be current.

Issue seems to have started after trying to open images from SMB network share.

Completely deleting all preference folder "Bridge 2023" seems to have fixed it:

~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Bridge 2023/

Disabling "Network Volumes" access in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Files and Folders: Network Volumes    allows me to load local files and start Bridge just fine.

Enabling "Network Volumes" brings back the error.
