Hi, I'm using the newest version of Bridge: 9.0.1.216 x64.
My use of Bridge, for a particular project I'm working on, is simply to apply keywords. I don't need to preview the videos. With my workflow, I don't even need thumbnails. After applying keywords to the files in a particular folder, I probably never need to return to it. Therefore, I don't need a cache at all, so saving files to the cache is a waste of resources and time (for my needs).
You cannot apply a keyword (XMP Data) until the thumbnail has generated. The problem is that they take FOREVER to load, and sometimes, I need to scroll down (I'm using List view) to even generate thumbnails for the videos that are visible in the window; videos outside of the visible items won't generate automatically.
The folders I'm working with average something like 100 GB, but only have 100 files or so. It really shouldn't take that long. All I really want to do is disable thumbnail and preview generation entirely. I'm not sure why this isn't an option. I have read every single article and forum question on this subject. I've tried messing with cache settings, using software rendering, Preferring Embedded, Disabling 100% Previews, and every other option in existence. I've tried setting the option under Preferences > Thumbnails > Do Not Process Files Larger Than X MBs to 1 (as in don't process thumbnails for files larger than 1 MB). But apparently, this setting is disregarded for video files.
Is there nothing I can do. Getting through these files would take no time at all if Bridge could be better optimised. Applying keywords takes longer than I would like, too (after the thumbnails have generated). I attribute that to my PCs processing power, though.
Furthermore, files often glitch out where I am unable to apply a keyword at all. I get the error message "The file cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur." Ironically, as related to my issue and goals, purging the cache for the item is supposed to fix the problem, but most of the time it doesn't. This isn't a huge deal for one or two files, but when there is a big chunk of files in a folder, it becomes a problem. You can select all and apply keywords, but you have to click through a warning and then a bunch of files don't get the keyword anyway.
Please let me know if you have run into this issue and found any solutions that work for you. Thank you.

Hi Finn Haverkamp,
You can try "Prefer Embedded" setting for the thumbnails for saving some time. However to apply keywords yo need to allow Adobe Bridge to generate thumbnails. However you can raise this as a feature request using the below link
Thanks,

This is a major issue for me as well. Sometimes the thumbnails generate quickly enough, but there are times like today when I wind up dropping Bridge for solving my issues. I don't have time to deal with this issue.

Any idea why the enlarged preview function only offers 800% which is hopelessy slow - have tried the 100% and embedded options but no response happens?
