Bridge window is simply black

What has caused my Bridge window, regardless of workspace, to appear essentially black (see screenshot)? And why does the name of a recently viewed folder appear in the title bar of this useless window? Is there something I need to reset? Reinstall Bridge? Thanks for a wise answer.

GAry, it seems a simple update to the latest version was what I needed. I'm back in the saddle. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Best wishes.

I think the first thing to try is to delete the cache of the folder.

Go to Tools (menu) -> Cache -> Delete Cache for (x) folder.

Does that help?

Can you view the contents of any other folder?

If not, you should rebuild Bridge's Preferences:

"Start Adobe Bridge and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) until the Reset Settings dialog box appears. Select all three options--Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache--and then click OK"

Thanks for your thoughts, Gary but, alas, the problem persists. In fact, every window that could be opened in Bridge is essentially black: Preferences, all the Metatdata tools, even the About Bridge window. Should I try to uninstall/reinstall?

Hi Daisysdad,

Hmm, sorry that didn't work.

Yes, I do think an uninstall and then reinstall would be in line at this point, but first: was there ANY change in your system, an update for your computer or another piece of software? I've been using Bridge since version 1 and I've never seen this nor have I heard of it before. (Yeah, I know, being special here is not necessarily a good thing, huh?)

Just out of curiosity, have you done a reboot of your computer?

Oh, one other thing to test: Do you have an alternate user set on your computer? If yes, go into this alternate user and see if the problem exists there. If not, go into your Preferences and find Users, then after unlocking this (wiht your computer password), create a new user. (To make things easier, let it have the same password as you always use. That way next year you wont be struggling to remember the password.) Oh, and give it full administrative rights as well, again to make things easier. Now restart in that user and see if the problem exists there. This will help to determine where the problem lies.

Let me know

Oh,

In answer to one of your questions, I believe that, yes, my update to Big Sur OS coincided with this problem.

OK, good to know.

next question: are you using the lastest version of Bridge?

And this may also be time to say that if you are, it might be a good idea to uninstall and reinstall.

I'm guessing on this becuase I'm still using Catalina and have not encountered this issue. However, I'm going to guess that because of the different OS, there may be issues as to what's installed and where and that might affect how things operate.

You may want to check these issues from Adobe. Please note that "Black screen" is not shown.

Good luck!
