Conversion of RAW files also creates a copy of the first file in the folder

I am using Image processor to batch process almost 3000 NEF files in a folder. When I run the action from Bridge, having corrected the various thing I need to in Camera Raw, using the action I have created to convert from RAW to JPG the program also creates a copy of the first file in the folder. I am only doing about 24 - 30 images at a time so it's not that I am doing huge batches.

Can anyone help?

Hello, could you post your Image processor settings?

In the attached image, what is the issue? the fact that all images are the same?

Is it PS 24.1?

Pierre, I do think that that's the issue. I wonder if rebuilding the cache might be the simple solution?

You mean you think it is a preview issue?

I do not think it's a preview issue, rather, maybe the cache is messed up and is only placing that first image for the rest of the files.

@IainHamer Please go to Tools (menu) -> Cache -> Purge cache for folder (xxx). See if that fixes the issue.

My logic is when you have 3000 images in a folder; there are more chances of the cache going "boing," (and yes, that's a technical term). By cleaning up the cache if it works, that's the problem; if it doesn't then we try and come up with something else.

The thing is taht the batch of images are converted to JPG's in a folder created by PS and the multiples of the 1st image in the file is saved in the folder that I created when I uploaded the images from my cards. The images in the folder I created are correct and in the right order. I have sat and watched the action and it seems to complete its action and then reopens that same file again for a second or two then procede onto the next file. I have attached the IP settings screen shot.

My PS version is 23.5.3 as I have an older iMac that I am reluctant to get rid of

Why are you processing the images twice? Try not running the action at the end.

I am not processing the images twice. I do my corrections to exposure, lens correction and sharpness in CR and then run a conversion to JPG for my use.

What does your RAW to JPEG action do? Please post a screen shot showing that action fully expanded.

It simply opens the RAW file and then Save As a JPG,  then closes the file. See the screen shot

So you are doing one conversion with your action and one with Image Processor? What you show will create two JPEG files. This could be the problem.

I'm sorry but I can't see how. The image processor is surely only converting the file to JPG, I have used this method before and not had the same occur. I used to use batch processing but this started giving all sorts of problems when I upgraded the software one time. Is it possible that the last upgrade has caused this?

Hi, I concur: Yes, Image processor opens the raw files in 1 to save them as jpeg in 2 with the settings in 3, but then, you ask it to run an action in 4 that also saves...

Did you try removing that action, and simply running image processor?

Are you running Image Processor directly or in an action etc?

IO open the images through bridge into Camera Raw. I then edit the small batch of images in Camera Raw and go back into Bridge. I then run an action from Photoshop that converts from the RAW file to JPG.

Hi guys that seems to have been the problem. It just seems a bit weird that the first few times that I used this operation it ran fine and it didn't do the copy of the first file. Thanks again - Iain
