Generate Monitor-Size Previews: Wrong size generated

Bridge will usually generate previews with the wrong size when "Generate Monitor-Size Previews" has been enabled (checked). I would guess that this bug has been present for a while.

The setting can be found here: Preferences -> Advanced -> Generate Monitor-Size Previews

On my system (see below), I have a monitor with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. When "Generate Monitor-Size Previews" is not checked, Bridge generates preview files with a pixel width of 2048 pixels in this cache folder (2048 seems to be the default size):

   C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge\Cache\v36\1024\...

Then, when checking "Generate Monitor-Size Previews", I see preview files with a width of 2560 pixels for new files, which may be the expected width (but see note below *).

However, with "Generate Monitor-Size Previews" still checked, I exit Bridge, then starts Bridge again, then I double check that "Generate Monitor-Size Previews" is still set in Preferences (which it is). I then let Bridge generate new previews.

=> Now I notice that even if "Generate Monitor-Size Previews" is checked, Bridge reverts back to generating previews with a width of 2048 pixels!

=> It turns out that in order to get Bridge to generate the "correct" preview size (2560 pixels in my case), I must, each time I start Bridge, go into Preferences and then turn "Generate Monitor-Size Previews" off and then on again to get the correct preview size for new images. The preference setting only takes effect while Bridge keeps running.

This is maybe a minor bug (the previews gets a little blurry though), but one may wonder if this "ignoring" of preference settings may also happen for other settings?

*) Note:
I note that for 3:2 images the preview files are 2560 x 1707 pixels in size when "Generate Monitor-Size Previews" is working. This means that the preview files have a height that is larger than the height of my 16:9 monitor (2560 x 1440 pixels). I guess that when checking "Generate Monitor-Size Previews" the 3:2 preview files on my system really should have been something like 2160 x 1440 pixels?

Before running the tests described above I did the following:

1) Deleted the Bridge cache (Bridge then automatically builds a new empty cache when started).
2) Cleared Bridge preferences (Ctrl+Alt+Shift on startup)
3) Uninstall Bridge
4) Install the latest version of Bridge (14.0.4.222)

We have released a new version of Bridge 14.1. To update Bridge to 14.1, click "Update" in the Creative Cloud desktop app next to Bridge. More detailed instructions for updating

Please let us know if the cache or thumbnails are regenerating in the central cache or in the exported cache folder. Also, please mention how you are updating Camera Raw.

After updating the Bridge still, if the issue persists, try the below steps:

1. In the preferences panel under cache, increase the cache size to max.

2. Check the purge cache that is older than n days. Increase the n value.

3. Automatically Export Cache to a folder when possible.

I am currently running Bridge version 14.1.0.257.

The issue described above is still present in this version.

I am running with a local cache only, as mentioned it is located here:

        "C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge\Cache\v36\

Attached you will find my normal preferences settings related to cache management (BTW, I can see no mention of "exported cache folder" anywhere).

I am only a single user using Bridge on a single PC (no shared cache).

Whenever the Creative Cloud app notifies me that there is a new version of Camera Raw, I start the app and clicks:

-   Apps -> View updates (under "Installed apps") -> Update all

I am currently running Adobe Camera Raw version 16.3.1.1889.

*** I have tried this as requested:

1. In the preferences panel under cache, increase the cache size to max.

     - Went up to 744GB

2. Check the purge cache that is older than n days. Increase the n value.

     - Was not checked, now checked and set to the max value of 180 days

3. Automatically Export Cache to a folder when possible.

    - Can not find any setting for this?

This had no effect, the preview files still reverts back to a width of 2048 pixels when restarting Bridge.

Just to be shure, I have now tested this with cr2 (Canon Raw files), psd and jpg source files (all with the same result).

I have the same problem. Whatever settings I apply: the full screen preview is not in monitor size. Running Bridge 14.1.1274 on a MBP, Apple M3 Max 128GB RAM, macOS  14.5

Purged the cache, set max size etc, all the hints given above with no result.

Solved by uninstalling the app and deleting all the associated files in the Library, completely new installation, voilà.

One additional info: I can observe this problem on several (all) of my PCs, all running the same (latest) versions of Bridge and Windows.

And, as mentioned above, I have already tried reinstalling Bridge and cleaning the cache, tweaking preferences etc.

Ditto the OP. Two bugs, actually. The "Generate Monitor-Size Previews" bug is still active on my Windows 11 system under the latest version of Bridge (Version 14.1.1.274). My 2560 monitor gets 2048 size files in the cache, unless I do the toggle trick jjohanson describes.

Second bug is more bothersome and a bit strange. 100% Previews on my 2560 monitor are sometimes soft and pixelated. Sometimes, but not always. I've determined that such bad previews are dependent on image size. Larger images are always OK, but smaller images are not. For me, the problem occurs somewhere around the 5000 pixel (long side) size. Strangely, soft previews occur only on the first display of a preview. If I escape out of a soft preview and immediately come back to 100%, then it's OK. But if I close bridge and re-launch, the soft previews are back. If I trick bridge into actually making 2560 screen size previews, the soft 100% previews still occur.

Another symptom of the bad previews is that when I click on the initial "fit" preview to go to 100%, the preview will jump to somewhere other than where I clicked. Click in and out of 100% and the preview continues shifting off the click point. But again, escape out and come back in, all is OK.

The soft, pixelated previews are a sign of some bad algo that is uprezing a smaller version. Either the 2048 version or the 2560 version, makes no difference. Why it gets corrected to a good preview on a second and subsequent display is a mystery. Why is goes back to soft previews after a relaunch of Bridge is an equal mystery.

I discovered this recently when processing a fresh batch of images from my wife's Sony P&S camera. It has "smaller" images compared to my Canon full frame cameras. In the initial culling pass I was rejecting lots of images because they looked soft. Turns out they were OK, just the 100% preview was soft.

I've tested this in the past, but can find no effect from the "Preview
Quality: High" option in Bridge. When this option is on, it seems to
consume some extra CPU, but with no benefit. The actual preview jpeg
files in the cache are no different. The bugs discussed in this forum
and others remain the same. So leave it off.

I received a Windows 11 Bridge update today to version 14.1.2.300. It provides no fix to the issues described in this thread.

Having similar problems with Bridge 14.1.2.300 (latest) on a MBP w M3 Max running macOS 14.6. Slideshow images are fuzzy because previews are too small.

Problem has persisted through several versions of macOS and through several versions of Bridge. I've done clean reinstalls, etc. and worked in chat with an Adobe agent but never resolved the issue.

FWIW, monitor on this MBP is 3456 x 2234 px, but in /Users/<User>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Bridge/Cache/v36 there's *nothing* in the folder "full". Perhaps that's the issue? The largest files in the Cache are in folder "1024" which has jpg files with max width of 2048 px.

Installed the "new" Bridge 15.0.0.397 today. No joy on the issues of this thread. All still the same.

Lots of new stuff though. I like the new Denoise AI with no more dng files. A little annoying that comes turned off. You have to go through preferences to turn it on.
