HEVC (H.265) No preview in Bridge

Community Beginner ,
Apr 05, 2017 Apr 05, 2017

Hi,

Bridge is the only place when I can`t preview HEVC files. AE and Premiere has no any problem (latest versions as Bridge).

Windows Explorer has no any problem, too (K-lite pack). Is there any solution to preview HEVC clips in Bridge?

Thanks,

Adam

My solution is to install the decoder k-lite

Then select Media Player Classic in the default application of the system settings

Double-click to run Bridge, right-click the hevc file, and click Clear Cache to re-create the thumbnail.

If it is invalid once, close Bridge,

Then open the system default application and select windows "photo" or "movie and TV",

Double-click to run Bridge, and then re-create the thumbnail. (Repeat until you can see the thumbnail, generally within 4~5 it must be fine)

After this action, the thumbnails created are based on which player is the default, so I usually end up with the "Photos" application

Seven years later, still not h.265 support in Bridge. It's baffling.

I don't understand how they fail to implement such basic features. Bridge could be such a powerful media management system but they seriously drop the ball

I haven't tried this yet because my work laptop won't allow me to purchase the codec but this is apparently a Windows limitation. The new Bridge can support HEVC with the Windows codec "extansion. Adobe has instructions on this here: Windows HEIF and HEVC extensions https://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/heif-hevc-codec.html

On a PC,  I've found a better faster way to preview video, there's an app in the Microsoft store called QuickLook. It adds a feature to the File Explorer that is built in to Mac, with a file selected, hit the space bar and it previews in a pop out window. I can then arrow through or mouse through other files and they preview in that same window without having to hit space again. Works amazingly well. https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NV4BS3L1H4S?hl=en-us&gl=US&ocid=pdpshare

Another option with the same quick view funtion is Microsoft PowerToys Peek. Just tap Win+space and see a fast preview. This window can be pinned and used sequentially on clips.

@Michael at UNCP I use PotPlayer for rapid previews and checking of HVEC / H.265 vids
Works like a charm and is much more powerful than VLC or anything I've tried sofar

However, the whole point of Bridge is to manage assets, add metadata and have a huge library to do your video production workflows. To not be able to preview in Bridge, where you want to add all your metadata, is just insane. Kinda defeats the purpose!
