How to hide non image files by default ?

Advisor ,

Hi,

When using Bridge, I don't want to see non image files in the browser, especially the various sidecar files that may reside in the same folder as the images. I'm aware of the different filtering and searching capabilities of Bridge but they are not sticky. I couldn't imagine that the software was unable to automatically filter out non image files.

Did I miss something ?

Ronald,

This option is already disabled and sidecar files are not hidden anyway.

Then something is obviously wrong.

When Bridge is behaving badly then deleting the preferences often solves the matter. Did you try this already?

OK. I now understand what "hidden files" means in Bridge. I'll put this another way : how do I add a given extension (type) to the list of files that should be hidden in Bridge ? I looked at the Preferences and in the registry. Could not find anything to update. Currently, even when Show hidden files is disabled, XML, DOP and other file types are shown.

And yes, I have reset the preferences.

If resetting the preferences did not help I'm afraid I ran out of ideas.

Isn't using the filter option a better workaround than using  the sorting option?

I realize both options are not sticky so neither is a comfortable solution...

Probably. But I'm wondering where Bridge is hiding the list of "non hidden files". I suspect this is hard coded which wouldn't be a good idea. I have posted a question on the feedback forum.

Thanks for your time.

Bridge uses the system hidden files flag. XML and DOP files are nothing special that Bridge would know about.

You may have file system problems, I'd start there.

The raw sidecar files (*.xmp) are not considered hidden files by Windows, nevertheless Brdidge normally hides them...

A temporary workaround is to sort by filename and also by type. This way, unwanted files are grouped together but depending on the extension (type), they could clutter the beginning of the list.
