July 17, 2018 BridgeCC update failed

New Here ,
Jul 17, 2018 Jul 17, 2018

Today my Adobe CC app notified me that a BridgeCC update was available. After selecting the update, the download appeared to proceed normally, but failed to install. On several retries, the update stalls at 91%, then displays an "update failed" message. Clicking on "Learn More" results in message that "Unable to move the file. Rename the file and then try again." Having no idea what this message wants me to do, I clicked "More information." Nothing happened. No error codes were displayed at any point.

Tried selecting the Adobe Bridge CC 2018 icon on the desktop and got "Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them: (I am the Administrator.) Windows 8.1

So, I can't update BridgeCC through the app and have no access to Bridge CC through the desktop icon. Translation, BridgeCC is not available to me. NOT GOOD.

Solution???

Sorry to be so dumb, but there is no point in defending the low ground. The process may be the same for Windows 8.1 as Vista, but the info & boxes that come up don't match the info in the Vista link. For example, in Windows 8, Start, I select "Command Prompt" from the list. The next screen shows a box with "C:\Users\Admin>" The options shown in the link you provided, such as "click Run as Administrator," etc. don't show.

At some point I got an Error P50. Following the info associated with the code, I got the uninstalled for the desktop app and ran it. The result was "Uninstallation of Creative Cloud desktop completed with errors" and, not surprisingly, the reinstall had problems, too.

UPDATE: 7/18/2018.  Managed to get the Desktop App back in service and it showed an update for Bridge CC was available. The Bridge update again stalled at 91% and an error box appeared stating "There was a problem updating Bridge CC. Unable to move the file. Rename the file and try again." Below that, "More information" appears in blue and placing the cursor over it shows it to a a link, but clicking on it does nothing. So, at least the desktop app is back.

What file am I supposed to rename (and where is it), please?

Thank you for your response. However, when I get to your Step 4.3, I do not see Adobe Bridge as an option. The options are:

1. All

2. Adobe Flash Player 10.2

3. Creative Cloud 2018, 2017,2014, Creative Cloud & CS6 Products

4. Creative Cloud 2018, 2017, 2015 only

5. Creative Cloud 2014 only

6 Creative Cloud only

7. CS6 only

8. CS5-CS5.5-CS6

9. CS5-CS5.5

10. CS3, CS4

11. Adobe Id credentials

12. Fix Host File

13. Quit

Might the fact that the Abode Desktop App has been recovered/restored have anything to do with the "Adobe Bridge and Adobe Creative cloud application" not appearing as an option?

I elected to use the option that involved the least messing with my computer -- that is, I opted for "select Bridge."  I then downloaded Bridge and it is working. The only minor issue that remains is that the system wants me to install/reinstall the CC desktop app. When I go that route, the system responds that "You’ve already installed the Creative Cloud desktop app. Once it’s open, you can install and manage your applications." Perhaps that nag will go away after a restart on my computer. Other than that, we are back in business.Thank you very much for your kind assistance. Excellent tech support.
