I'm having problems moving pictures from folder to folder in Bridge on my Mac M2 2023. It's a super powerful computer and it really shouldn't be showong me the Apple spinning wheel of doom and taking 30 seconds to move files across.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Hi, @filksy, are the two folders on the same drive or on different drives?

My guess, from what you write, is that they are on different drives AND that there are many files.

Once we know where you are moving them from/to and the number of files, we can start to figure this out.

Hi thank you

The two folders are both on the same Samsung T7 SSD external drive connected via USB C.

The amount of pictures I was moving was x400 35mb RAW files. I repeat this was all on the same external drive. Not writing to another drive.

I also had the same spinning ball of doom while renaming x70 picture files. I've never had this happen before even on my MacPro2008 that died last year!

Thanks for your help

Darren

Hi, @filksy, (back from lunch)

Next, can you please try and transfer the same set of images from folder to folder — and not via Bridge. This will help determine where the hangup might be.

I'm concerned that Bridge is first transferring images from the external HD to your computer and then back to the External HD to the other folder. I mention this because in the past when you put something in the trashcan from an external drive, it would be placed in a pseudo trashcan on that external drive. If you removed that external drive and looked in the computer's trash, the item you tossed was no longer there. If you connected that drive again, that item would be back in the trash can. Now, if you put something in the trashcan from Bridge from an external drive, it first has to be placed on the computer and then into the trash can. You can then remove the drive, and the item will still be in the trash can.

I've never understood if this was due to a change in how the OS handles file movement or how Bridge handles file movement.

Ok I just did that.

In fact I just transferred 600 files via Finder and it took 4 seconds and no spinning ball.

Thanks for your help with this

Darren

Hi Darren,

OK, that confirms my suspicion. Until this is fixed in Bridge if you transfer a number of images, you'll be better off doing that in the Finder than from within Bridge.

BTW, I humbly apologize, but I just realized that you had put some personal contact information into your messages. Regrettably, these public forums are viewed by both good and bad people. Exposing that information in a public forum can have negative ramifications, so I removed your personal information. I'm sorry I did not notice that before.
