Save pic rating within ACR if not opening/saving images that are open in ACR?

I use ACR w/ Photoshop 2026. My workflow is to open RAW files from bridge into ACR. Its hard to get a general feel for some images without opening them in ACR and making a few edits. But for images that are open in ACR, is there any way I can save the rating, even if I don't open the image in Photoshop? I may want to come back to the pics later based on rating without opening them in Photoshop.

Hi, @zoutv, a rating (or label) should not be removed by running it through ACR. I do that all the time and have never lost either yet.

If you have to look in ACR to see if the image validates a rating, at what point are you adding the rating (and how)?

Also, a few other ideas to toss out here, but I am just tossing these out because maybe it's possilbe that they might be part of the issue, but I'm fully guessing here:

  • Have you Purged the Cache for any given folder giving you these issues (Purging might help, but not cause the issue).
  • Have you rebuilt Bridge's Preferences? (Again, might help, but not cause the issue)
  • If you are on a Mac, have you done the Permissions and Security proceedures for Bridge?

If you need instruction on any of these, please ask and I can help.

Let me know what you find,

Thanks.  I should of mentioed I don't rate the images in bridge first, uaully in ACR. So I don't have anything to 'fall back on' already rated in bridge if I close out of ACR.

OK, more questions (sorry, but I'm looking for various angles here that might/can cause this to happen.

  • How often do you use Key Commands in ACR? The issue: if you have conflicting actions, your ratings/labels can be removed. For example. Maybe you've set a "4" rating to appear when you press the "4" key (and not Command-4). But you may have also set something else in ACR to use Command-4. Unless you removed Command-4 from the setting options in Bridge, it will still cause a rating of 4 to go to "0."
  • Is your software (Bridge, ACR, and PS) up-to-date? (Along with this, did you install PS AFTER installing Bridge? The reason: most of the scripts in Bridge are installed by PS when PS is installed. If Bridge had not been installed yet, PS has no place to install the scripts and then the scripts will not be installed. ACR is installed by PS, so maybe… [To test this, you'll have to uninstall both Bridge and PS, then reinstall Bridge and then PS.
  • Are you using any 3rd party Metadata tools? They could be mucking up between ACR, Bridge, and PS.

Please note: ALL of these are guesses, In the many years inside these forums, I've not seen this issue before.
