Hi all,

Having an issue with bridge where I plug in my sd card and it shows me files that have already been deleted, a ghost of a file if you will, and won't show any of the new content put on the card. It shows the new images in finder/files, but not in bridge. Any way to fix this?

Hi, @leighakristina.photo, I understand you deleted the images, but did you reformat the card in your camera? It is always a good idea that once you have transferred your images to the computer, and there is a copy of them, you can then reformat the card in the camera (and not by the computer).

An additional question, for the record: what is your OS and what release?

Hi! Yes, I've reformatted the card 2-3 times already. I'm currently running Sonoma 14.1.1 on my Mac. I also have bridge up to date as well.

Just to confirm: AFTER formatting the card, you're seeing ghost images that have already been transferred, and the card reformated? (And that reformatting was done in the camera?)

This is one weird one if what I've written above is true. I've not updated to Sonoma yet, so I cannot verify.

Yes, that's exactly it! It shows the file name and a dog-eared paper for the thumbnail since Bridge can't actually retrieve those photos any longer. Each time the formatting was done in camera!

It's certainly a strange case, I haven't been able to find anything similar online.

FWIW, that sounds like what one sees when ingesting images into Lightroom Classic if you have images from past ingestion on the same card. LRC will not let you ingest the same image again, and any "already" ingested images show up as ghost images (right now, I can't remember if there's a dog ear on these images).

However, once you've formatted the card and the old images are deleted, this whole issue doesn't happen.

But, because Bridge doesn't have a catalog, you can ingest the same images over and over into the same folder and all that will happen is that you get some change in the name (e.g., "my photo.jpg," "my photo-1.jpg). There is NO attempt to prevent you from doing that.

Forgive me for re-asking what should be obvious, but exactly how do you reformat the card in your camera? Or are you deleting the images into your computer's trash can?
