Sort Order Changes After Assigning Star Rating

In the process of rating a group of photos, sometimes when assigning a star rating to a photo, the sort order changes, which makes editing slower. The group is sorted by Ascending Creation Date. For instance, consider three photos, numbered 1, 2, 3, and in the desired sort order. If I assign a 5-star rating to no. 2, the order changes to 2, 1, 3. The issue is inconsistent, both within a group, and from group to group.

Please help! I have 3K images to rate.
