Terrible changes to Camera Raw editing

New Here ,
Jun 22, 2020 Jun 22, 2020

I absolutely hate the updated Camera Raw editing.    Very user-unfriendly!!!  Please change it back.  I was in the middle of working on wedding pictures when the update happened.   All of a sudden my workflow slowed to a crawl.  To have to figure out where everything is.

PLEASE CHANGE CAMERA RAW EDITING BACK!!!

You can download an earlier version from here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html

However, ACR will not be going back to that form. This is intended to make the transition from Lightroom to ACR and back smoother for users so what you see is what it will be in the future.

I suggest you go back until you your editing and then update to the new one to get used to it. Yes, it's different, very different, but it does have its merits.

I completely Agree, even several years down the road, I am unable to get used to it and my workflow has been reduced down to a trickle due to this abomination of an update. I am trying to downgrade to the previous version now. Adobe changed the UI back, this is atrocious...

The UI is fine, you seriously can't adapt to some tools and commands being moved around?

It's fine but not great. It's slower to use. As an event photographer I need the ability to edit fast and the new acr added extra clicks in my workflow thus slowed down my editing significantly. Not happy

Many event photographers use Photo Mechanic because it is much faster. Maybe try that?

Yes [we] can adapt to the new UI but for those who used specific functions
that were in the former version and that are no longer in the new version it
is a handicap. The specific issue is how the crop tool works.

Those who feel users should just 'adapt' probably did not use the tool in
the same fashion and for similar editing needs - the old method of how the
crop tool worked did make for a much faster workflow. The current method
works but as it has been reported a number of times, and I can attest
myself, it is slower and more graphic card intensive.

Just as there is a 'Legacy' crop function in PS I have been an advocate of
how there should be a Legacy crop method added to ACR. Then everyone's
needs would be met - including those who prefer the faster old method.

Adobe has a deaf ear to this request which is very unfortunate. They have
done very well to restore many other legacy functions in their current
releases which has been wonderful and makes for a good upgrade experience.
But this one change that was made to make ACR 'look' more like Lightroom
really was a step backward for a lot of PS only users and adapting has
caused a greater amount of time to be consumed in doing some functions.

Rolling back to a prior version is a poor solution as you lose all of the
other improvements that have been introduced.

I would again make the request for a 'Legacy' crop tool in ACR and hope that
maybe someday we will again get back this tool that many people did rely
upon.

Respectfully,

Mike Leonard

Good to see this is still being discussed. As an update to my comments reagrding this, I have stuck with what was working for me, on my old PC using the old Camera Raw, as the one one simply doesn't work for me (primarily the crop tool). I am now editing up to 2,000 images a day, and simply could not risk completely changing over to the modern day Camera Raw. My new PC is now basically a very high powered gaming rig lol.

I think I may have started this thread during the shock of the update years ago.  At the time I was cruising along with an old Cheese Grater MAC tower and on that machine the lag on various processes was driving me insane.  The disruption to my editing eventually forced my hand to upgrade to an M1 Max Computer which eliminated all of the lag.  Now I find editing in Camera Raw and Photoshop with the new interface much more tolerable after getting used to it and having a machine that can power it.  It still would be the best of all worlds to restore the legacy crop tool.  Despite other improvements I now enjoy in the software I still miss the overall tool layout from pre-crap crop tool also.
