Unable to delete or move images in Bridge

New Here ,
Sep 14, 2025 Sep 14, 2025

I have the same problem as a lot of people in that whenever I try to delete or move an image I get the dreaded error message. I have followed the advice in previous posts - changing permissions by unlocking the padlock but when I go back into the 'get info' tab the padlock is on again. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, purged cache but now I am all out of ideas. Please help. I am using Mac Sequoia 15.6.1. I can delet files from Finder but this is not a good option

Hi, @stoatyfish, just so we know, where and how are you trying to move and/or delete files from? Where are the files located?

Since you are on Sequoia, I'm showing you the instructions on how to adjust the Mac's Security and Privacy controls. They are often the problem.

Go to your Mac's Settings, and search for "security." That will get you to the settings that Apple uses to let you bypass their default "vault" protection. (This is a good thing.) Also, while I'm showing activity for Adobe Acrobat, insert just about any application because Apple's security affects how all applications can function. On the bright side, it helps limit or prevent unwanted activity from rogue applications.

Starting off, you see this. Note that I have three items marked out.

gary_sc_0-1757854238599.png

Starting from the 2nd, Full Disk Access, if you select that, you'll see all of the applications that have been granted Full Disk Access. If you see Acrobat but it is not turned on, click on the switch on the far right side. If you do not see Acrobat, click on the "+" symbol on the bottom, locate Acrobat to add it, then turn on the switch.

gary_sc_1-1757854238599.png

Next, go to Accessibility, same conditions as above.

gary_sc_2-1757854238599.png

Lastly, go to Files & Folders; this should already be set, but depending on where it's located (such as a server), you may have to set this as well.

Again, all of the above may have already been done by you, but it's wise to check.

I have actually tried again and notice in the Files and Folder section both Adobe Bridge and Photoshop are grey whilst Lightroom is black - would that be a factor ?

Hi, @stoatyfish, sorry, I was away from my computer (be aware that the majority of folks who help in these forums are not Adobe employees and do this because they want to help).

Just because you performed the Mac Settings on a previous computer or OS on the same computer, it does not mean you do not have to do it again. Yeah, I speak from experience. :>)

I'd suggest you run through the steps I showed above and just check again. It can be easy to miss a step (don't ask me how I know).

Let me answer your other question within the question

Funny, I am usually so busy running through the process that I had not noticed that before.

It appears that if there are any extra needs necessary, the text is black. Why Illustrator here requires special access to the Desktop (and that Full Disk Access is insufficient is beyond my pay grade).

Can you please share a screenshot of one of the files you cannot send to the trash? Please capture the entire Content Panel.

Thanks

I have tried the steps several times but the result is always the same. I have also noticed that within Bridge I can rate a folder but I cant rate any of the individual photos that are saved within Pictures and are not in folders. I have attached a screenshot of the info of one of the pictures

Hi, @stoatyfish, OK, I now am grasping what might be going on here.

You found some information I gave out years ago on setting the Preferences for folder/image access in the Finder. That is no longer relevant. Times and things change.

What you are experiencing is Apple's security settings. This is Apple's way of protecting you against people trying to get into your computer.

Please go to your Apple's Settings, you can find it here:

One opened, do the following:

Go to your Mac's Settings, and search for "security." That will get you to the settings that Apple uses to let you bypass their default "vault" protection. (This is a good thing.)

BIG NOTE: These screenshots refer to Acrobat. Just look for Bridge, it's the same process for ANY application

Starting off, you see this, note I have three things marked out.

Starting from the 2nd, Full Disk Access, if you select that, you'll see all of the applications that have been granted Full Disk Access. Hi, @stoatyfish, yes it is. However, your response earlier showed a Finder Screenshot showing the Sharing & Permissions section of the Finder's Information window. I had shown that a number of years ago for dealing with OS permissions, and it made me think you found that and were using that.

Let's try one more thing. Many years ago, I was having a dreadful time with an application, and nothing seemed to work to make it right. Someone had suggested I give Northern Software's (OS)* Cache Cleaner a try, and it solved my problem. I've been subscribing to it ever since. It is my go-to tool for determining if something can fix what seems to be unfixable. It has not worked 100% of the time, but far more often than not.

The good news is that there is a 10-day free trial, so if it doesn't work, there's no cost but a bit of time. You can download this from https://www.northernsoftworks.com/

Look for the release for YOUR OS. Above, you show that you're on Sequoia, so be sure to download that one. The "penalty" for using it for free is that you have to wait (I think) 10 seconds before it can be used. If you pay for it, there's no pause time.

*The name changes as the system changes, so it was once Big Sur Cache Cleaner, Ventura, etc.

There are two, maybe three, tabs I typically use: Maintenance, Cache Cleaning, and sometimes I also do the Optimize. To be honest, I think the Optimize is more pertinent with hard disk drives than with SSD drives, but I'm not sure.

Click on the Maintenance tab:

gary_sc_0-1757952725804.png

I check everything there is (clicking on “All” in the upper right corner does the same thing) and click Run. You may or may not have to restart depending on what it finds and what it does.

Then, if things are still acting a bit “off,” I might do the Cache Cleaning thing. This is what sold it for me. Again, I tend to do the following regardless as a precaution.

gary_sc_1-1757952725804.png

I’ve done a Medium Cleaning and clicked all three options. There have been times I did a deep cleaning. I'd try the Medium setting before the Deep setting and see if that solves the problem. Depending on what it finds, it may or may not require a restart of the computer.

Lastly is the Optimize. I can’t say I’ve seen that much difference with this, but it doesn’t seem to hurt. Your mileage, as they say, may vary.

gary_sc_2-1757952725804.png

There is a manual if you want to get a more knowledgeable background on what to click on.

If this helps, please let me know.

I neither work for Adobe nor Northern Software. I do support both because they help me get my work done.

Good luck!
