Blank Output Module (Bridge CC)

Participant ,
Jul 16, 2013 Jul 16, 2013

As suggested here

http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/install-output-module-bridge-cc.html

I downloaded and installed Bridge CC Output Module. The module looks blank when I launch Bridge. I already tried the two workarounds for "Possible Issues", covered at the bottom of the download page, but none of them worked for me.

Anybody else with this problem?

I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit. Here's a screenshot:

We've had the script modification tested and now implemented. The files to download from the document have been updated with the new code and will no longer require any changes.

I'm using a Mac and I can't get the output option to work with the new link.

Yes you can, read the instructions carefully where it is all perfectly clear explained. Just be aware of using the correct library, there is system library and a user library.

well I tried as well, and no success. As for the person who made the suggestion for using the reinstall module and fetching the .pkg, brilliant idea, but unlike him, I am not a super wizz and I'd like to know where to go/what exactly to use, feels like a needle in a hay stack...

Thanks !

To put things straight, this is a long thread and in the subject it says Bridge CC, but you seem to talk about CS6 after trying some rereading?

Can you give more details about system version, computerspecs and software versions, and a screenshot of your Bridge window showing the blank AOM?

Hello, and thanks for taking the time to reply

yes, I do have a CS 6 install (a bundle, with Illustrator, Photoshop etc... It is the Design kit I believe), my Mac is a Mac Pro running Mac OS X 10.8.3.

At first, I had no "Output" window at all, then trying some of the steps, this is what I get after, as you can see the pane is now there but blank :

There are two solutions for you to try first:

1 - Click on the triangle next to Output Workspace and from that menu choose "reset workspace"

2 - If still no result quit Bridge and go to your user library (by default hidden, choose menu Go in Finder and when you have the drop down menu in view press option key to reveal the user library. Then use this path (best put finder window for library in column mode) Application Support / Adobe / Bridge CS6 / Workspaces. In this folder find and delete the file called: "!!-$$$AdobeOutputModule.workspace".

Now restart Bridge and try again

Hi,

What you described was the last steps I have tried. All of them. And only after that, did I get the empty "Output" window.

This is kinda why I feel hopeless right now someone suggested extracting stuff from installation .pkg but I'd like to know more on that before I intend anything on my machine...

Thanks.

Sorry to hear it is not working for you. Assuming you already tried to reset bridge prefs with restart Bridge holding down option key and maybe try this in combination with first quit Bridge, then from the same user library preferences folder delete the Bridge5 plist file and restart Bridge holding down option and again refresh prefs.

And you do have a back up of your download for CS6 installation (.iso file) or the original install disk?

You could try to uninstall PS first (without removing prefs) and reinstall PS again (this also installs the new Bridge copy at the same time). And maybe even the hard way (couple of hours if you are prepared and read all instructions about Cleaner Tool etc)) with complete uninstall of the suite (Be sure to have back ups for custom settings, workspaces, actions etc first). Then use Adobe Cleaner tool to remove some other files and maybe do a manual search to delete some remnants of CS6. The first do system maintenance with check and repair disk permissions and reinstall the lot again.

Hello,

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions...

I still have my install, however if it's going to take uninstall/re-install, I don't think I'm going to go through with it, I am in the midst of revisions and always in the need of using my suites. This scares me even more than fiddling around with modules to replace (I am afraid this will leave snip'n'bits here and there, making my reinstall "dirty"...)

The point seems that you already have a dirty install but I can imagine you are reluctant for reinstall. I'm a bit out of options because I seem to remember the workspace replacement option as described solved also the problem in CS6 but not entirely sure.

Maybe you can do a search your self in the Bridge General discussion for older posts (at least a year ago I would think) because the problem has been there before.

I've been having the same grief as everyone here, I somehow accidentally got it working a month or two ago but then yesterday through an update or something, I could no longer find the module. Anyway, I re-attempted all the Adobe instructions, redownloaded and such - to on avail. This morning however, I was checking something else in Bridge preferences, and in Startup Scripts I saw that Adobe Output Module just wasn't active. I clicked it, restarted the program and it is immediately working perfectly... don't know if this will work for anyone else, but I guess it's something to check, that no one even mentioned to me.

SOLVED (at least for me)

Maybe someone did the same mistake I did because my symptoms were exactly the same. Essentially it came down to two things. 1)  I copied the adobe output module folder into C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Bridge CC Extensions rather than the Adobe Output Module folder. (Notice the capital letters - because there ARE two folders)

2) The zip file from adobe didn't contain the AdobeOutputModule.workspace file. It contained an AdobeOutputModule java file instead.

Luckily on my computer  I still had the Adobe CS6 extensions folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Bridge CS6 Extensions\Workspaces) and in there was the AdobeOutputModule.workspace file.  I copied that back into the  (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Bridge CC Extensions\Workspaces). Now everything works.

This worked for me too!  I'm on a Mac and copied the "!!-$$$AdobeOutputModule.workspace" file from Adobe Bridge CS6 to CC and the output module is now working. Thanks so much!

Sadly, I spoke too soon.  The output window appeared, but did not have any of the export functions and when I went to another workspace and then tried to go back, the output workspace was not working again    Ugh.

I have the exact same problem. I've tried ALL the suggestions and absolutely nothing works. I have also checked several times that I have installed the plugin in the right folder. Is there seriously no solution to this? I need to generate a web gallery ASAP. I'm on Windows 8 64-bit using CC. I have neither time nor energy to reinstall an older version of Photosohp in order to get an older version of Bridge. This is ridiculous.

Hello! Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I found a post that states that changing the programs code manually from "CS6" to "CC" should do the trick. Thanks to that post I have now been able to resolve the problem. If it is apparent that the code states "CS6" instead of "CC" isn't there something you can do about it?

Originally, when the problem was first discovered, manually editing the file was the published solution. But replacing the files turned out to be an easier solution for the majority our customers. This should be rectified in the next release of Bridge, but it has been many years since we've had a new release of the application.

Post some screen shots showing how you've installed the files so we can see why things aren't working.

I am having the exact same issue and none of the troubleshooting steps are working. OS X 10.10.5, latest version of Bridge successfully reinstalled in troubleshooting. I have it in the correct directory (the root /library). I've tried deleting the $$$ file under the user directory. I've tried a million combinations of troubleshooting but the Output panel still shows up blank. You say that all of them have to do with the files being placed in the wrong folders, but in my situation everything is correct.

That CS6 folder is just a copy of the CC folder renamed, as another user suggested that that may work; CS6 was never on this machine. installpath.jpg

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Everything looks fine in your screen shot, but it doesn't show us much either. If you do a Get Info on the Adobe Output Module folder, are you told that there are 228 items for a total of 9.4 MB of space taken?

As for creating that CS6 folder as a solution, that goes way back when we first make these files available for download. At the time, they were unmodified copies of the CS6 files. But there is code within these files that referenced CS6 and if a folder named CS6 didn't exist, the code would fail. So at that time, those who happened to have CS6 and CC installed, everything worked. Those who only had CC didn't work. However, we have since updated the code in the files you can download, so this is no longer necessary nor will it change the behavior.

When checking for the !!-$$$AdobeOutputModule file, instead of looking at the Workspaces folder, do you see an Adobe Output Module folder? It should have two folders in it: ContactSheet and MediaGallery. The contents of these folders are related to how the Output Module itself gets used. If you delete the Output folder here, Bridge will simply recreate it on next launch. If Bridge is not creating/recreating this folder, it could be a clue as to what is going on.

Just to note, the !!-$$$AdobeOutputModule file is the the modified workspace. This means, that as you make some changes to the Bridge UI (like moving panels around) while using the Output Module, this file gets updated to remember those changes. By removing this file, you are forcing Bridge to re-read the workspace file which has been added in the system Library folder (the one in your screen shot). Also, this file gets read during Bridge launch, so if you delete it while Bridge is open, it will have no effect on Bridge (Bridge will just create a new one when you close it as well).

Reinstalling Bridge shouldn't have any effect on any of the behaviors involved since we are adding the Output Module functions to the application post install.

I'm seeing 9.3MB and 228 items in the Adobe Output Module folder under the root /Library.

AOMfolderfilesize1.jpg

I also see an "adobeoutputmodule" file within the Adobe Output Module folder, which you can see in the screenshot. I deleted it but upon opening Bridge it does not recreate the folder. Deleting the Adobe Output Module folder one level up also does not get recreated. Thank you for your quick reply here!

It's worth noting that with all of the files in the exact same place, with the same permissions, on another machine it works fine. The only difference between this one and the working computer is the OS versions, with the failing machine being on 10.10.5, and the working machine being on 10.11.1. I'd rather not go through the trouble of updating the 10.10.5 machine to a later OS to resolve this, but if you think it would help then I will. Please advise.

Thanks

While it shouldn't hurt anything, upgrading the OS shouldn't have anything to do with this. These files for adding the Output Module were created a couple versions back as far as the Mac OS is concerned. When I first added these files to my Bridge CC, I was on 10.9.

And to note, the files I was talking about deleting and regenerating are those within your User Library, not those in the System Library. The files in the System Library are the resource files, giving the application what it needs in order to create the Output Module. The files in the User Library are settings files that tell the Output Module how to behave. When you run an application, the settings files are read to determine the see what values should be inside each of the various settings. When you close the program, the current values are saved back into the settings file. If you delete these files, when you next launch the application there are no settings to be read. Thus, default values are filled in and a new set of settings files are created.

The difference between these two locations are:

  • System: HD/Libary
  • User: HD/Users/[Your User Name]/Library [NOTE: This Library folder is the one that the Mac OS hides by default]

Since this is working on one computer but not the other it shows us that we are simply missing some difference between these two computers. Of course, there are a million things that could be different between the two of them. A couple large sweeps that we could try are a new user account and Safe Boot. These two things will help level the playing field.

I've been combing through forums trying to find a solution but I still can't get the Output module working properly. 'Output' appears in my workspaces, but every time I select it nothing happens. I don't even get a blank panel, everything just stays on my current workspace.

Here's a screenshot of my installation. I've never had CS6 installed on this machine, and I don't have a 'Bridge CC Extensions' folder.

Help please!
