P: Firmware update for DJI FC8282 Air 3 breaks Adobe camera profiles

LEGEND ,
Feb 15, 2024 Feb 15, 2024

The most recent firmware update 10.08.03.67 for the DJI FC8282 Air3 broke the ability of LR / Camera Raw to recognize its camera as a supported camera, and the Adobe camera profiles are no longer available for the camera's DNGs.

The update changed EXIF:UniqueCameraModel from "DJI FC8282 Air3" to "DJI FC8282". But "DJI FC8282 Air3 Adobe Standard.dcp" is defined on the former camera-model name and doesn't recognize the new one.

You can download two sample DNGs from here:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/is3vqeiyatkfe0m73or87/not_works_DJI_20240101111934_0001_D.DNG?rlkey=o...

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/4e3dgl8p5s66a9lk3lv4l/works_DJI_20231210105602_0005_D.DNG?rlkey=22xdl...

When you import them into LR 13.1, observe that the Adobe camera profiles are available for the "works" DNG but not the "not_works" DNG. Here is the relevant output from Exiftool:

======== not_works_DJI_20240101111934_0001_D.DNG
[EXIF] Software : 10.08.03.67
[EXIF] Unique Camera Model : DJI FC8282
======== works_DJI_20231210105602_0005_D.DNG
[EXIF] Software : 10.07.01.04
[EXIF] Unique Camera Model : DJI FC8282 Air3

Here are the relevant contents of the .dcp showing it doesn't contain the new camera-model name "DJI FC8282":

$ strings -8 DJI\ FC8282\ Air3\ Adobe\ Standard.dcp | sort -u
?@0<>_AV?
?Copyright 2023 Adobe Systems, Inc.
?N_t?`Sv?
Adobe Standard
DJI FC8282 Air3
com.adobe

Three possible workarounds while Adobe and/or DJI sort this out:

1. Use Exiftool to change the camera-model name stored in the new-firmware DNGs:

exiftool -F -m -uniquecameramodel="DJI FC8282 Air3" not_works_DJI_20240101111934_0001_D.DNG

For files already imported in your LR catalog, you'll have to remove them from the catalog, run Exiftool, and then reimport them. I verified that this makes the Adobe camera profiles available, but there's a potential gotch. The -F file is needed because, at least in the sample DNGs provided, the offsets of fields in the MakerNotes are corrupted, possibly due to DJI bugs. Exiftool tries to fix the offsets, and the fix appears to work, but I haven't done any real testing to try to verify.

2. Roll back to the previous version of the firmware using DJI Assistant 2. I saw some DJI forum posts that sometimes this is allowed, sometimes not, depending on the particular version currently installed. I have no idea if this works or what its consequences might be.

3. Use the DNG Profile Editor to change the camera-model name in "DJI FC8282 Air3 Adobe Standard.dcp". I don't know if this is possible, since I can't run the DNG Profile Editor on my Macbook Pro -- the Mac version is currently broken on Mac OS 14, and the Windows installer won't install on ARM Windows, even though the x64 emulation is available.

Thanks for getting me into the correct direction. I was able to edit the original dcp files and replaced the name with the new one.

Just drop the new files into the same folder and it should work again!

@default49e92pvs7f00: "Still not working for DJI Mini 4 Pro. Imported DNG files still use Color and not Adobe Color "

This bug report was about another camera. I recommend that you start a new bug report and include a sample DNG from the Mini 4 Pro. Upload it to Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar and include the sharing link in your post.

Assuming the problem with the Mini 4 Pro is similar to that of Air 3 (a DJI firmware update changing the metadata field EXIF:UniqueCameraModel and thus breaking the existing Camera Raw profile), if you're on Windows, you can use workaround 3 described in the top post to make a version of Adobe Standard (on which Adobe Color is based) that recognizes the new camera model. If you're on Mac, I can provide another tool that will let you do that.

Hello, I'm still finding that this issue persist. Specifically for the DJI Air 3 Tele lens.

I am able to use Adobe Color (Adobe Color Neutral) for DJI Air 3 Wide lens RAW photos but none of the Adobe Color profiles are available for the Tele lens RAW photos.

I did notice a difference in the EXIF data between the two lens types from the DJI Air 3.

DJI Air 3 Wide:

  • Model: FC8282
  • Serial: 6K5FL6721108FS

DJI Air 3 Tele:

  • Model: FC8284
  • Serial: 6GVFL631110FSN

Perhaps this is the cause of the issue?

DJI Air 3 Tele:

  • Serial: 6GVFL631110FSN"

LR/Camera raw treats those as two different cameras and claims to support both:

https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html#DJI

LR 13.4 has camera profiles for both:

Some googling suggests that the two model numbers are correct (no thanks to DJI, who refuses to publish that information). So the issue might be somewhere else.

Since the original bug report was for the FC8282 and Adobe fixed that issue and marked this thread as "Fixed", I recommend you post a new bug report describing everything you observe. Include sample files from the FC8282 and the FC8284 -- upload them to Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar, and include the sharing link in your post. Also include the result of the menu command Help > System Info.

Hello everyone,

I don`t know if anyone else has been reported this problem lately but on my PC it seems that LR doesn`t recognise the cameras from DJI AIR3 drone so it doesn`t apply the correction profiles to the pictures I have recently shot. (last months)

I didn`t had this problem a few months ago (so like April), but it seems that it appeared now again. Does anyone know if there`s maybe a new update that solved it? I run LR Classic 14.4 version on Windows 10.

Thanks in advance!

@Brighila3821007694nq: "it seems that LR doesn`t recognise the cameras from DJI AIR3 drone"

Are you shooting raw (DNG) or non-raw (JPEG or HEIC)?  The camera profiles only apply to raw.

If raw, then the most efficient way to troubleshoot this is to share some problem photos showing the problem, one for each camera/lens. We can put it under the microscope to see what might be going wrong. If the forum won't let you attach the files here, upload it to Wetransfer, Dropbox, Google Drive or similar free service and post the sharing link here. We can see if the issue is specific to your computer or occurs on other installations.

Hi,

I`m only shooting Raw (mening dng for DJI). The problem appeared since a few months ago after some software update required by the drone. I`ll leave a link here for a photo for which "Enable Profile Corrections" doesn`t recognize the lens profile in my LR: https://we.tl/t-ifYOButDHs

Thanks!
