Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well. I am having a particular issue with Camera RAW and PREVIEW.
I just purchased a new Mac Studio and installed Sonoma 14.2.1
I have Lightroom and photoshop at the latest version
I have Camera Raw 16.1
I also have several camera, old ones, like
1- Lumix LX-100 (RW2 RAW files)
2- Nikon D800 (NEF RAW Files)
3- Nikon D300 (NEF RAW Files)
And I see all the images in my Finder no problem, I can open them easily with the space bar and they show perfectly well on PREVIEW.
BUT I just purchased a Lumix S5iiX also using RW2 files for their RAW and I cannot see them at all in Finder/Preview. I can see the image in Photoshop or Lightroom but NOT in Finder/Preview and I use this all the time to quickly look at an image.
NOTE: FIRMWARE of my Lumix is at the latest (1.4)
Anyone has a solution ?
I tried rebooting, I tried re-installing Camera Raw, nothing fix this issue. I even opened a ticket at Panasonic, so far they have no solution.
Tks in advance!

Mac OS has there own support for camera raw files,. so Apple most likely hasn't added your Panasonic Lumix S5iiX camera yet.
To see the supported cameras go to Apple>About This Mac, click More Info, then System Report>Software>Raw Support
or go here:

Oh my God, thank you so much !! You made my day!
Now the next step is when will Apple update it? It has the Lumix S5ii but not the S5iiX

System-level support for new camera RAW formats are delivered as background updates.
https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT207005
System data filesSystem data files provide new word lists, speech-recognition assets, voice assets, better suggestions for contacts and events, and more. Some system data files are installed only when you turn on or use features that require them. These system data files are installed in the background:
- System-level support for more digital camera RAW formats
All you can do is ensure background updates are enabled - following the steps in that article - and wait.
Apple menu > System Settings, click General in the sidebar, then click Software Update on the right. Click the info button next to Automatic Updates, then make sure “Install Security Responses and system files” has been turned on.
Apple's list of supported cameras - linked in @Jeff Arola's post - was last published on December 08, 2023, so perhaps an update is imminent.

Thank you for your reply but it's already checked and the RW2 for S5iiX are not there.

So you've done all you can.
Now it's up to Apple to provide an update.

True but from what I find odd, some people on YouTube are saying that it's working fine for them and they have the same camera as me... so I don't get it 🙂

And they're using Macs? Got any links?

From what I read in those YT comments, @LucasCreativeTech (who you were talking to) has a S5ii - which is supported.
You have a S5iiX which is not yet supported.

All make senses, but I am surprised, I think the X came out almost 6-8 months ago (may 2023)
And to my knowledge which is very limited on Panasonic (been a Nikon guy for over 20 years) the sensor of the S5ii and the S5iiX is the same... so both should be supported 🙂

Agreed. Not sure why Apple does not yet list the S5iiX RAW format as supported. Adobe certainly lists it as supported.
Perhaps post on a relevant Apple support forum and see if you can establish why.
Apple even lists the S5iiX as supported in Final Cut Pro.
