Announcing a new feature now in Adobe Camera Raw (17.2) – Removal of Distracting People

Under the Remove dialog, under Distraction Removal, we have added an item called “People”.

This feature supports faster and easier detection and removal of distracting people in an image. It is offered as a Tech Preview in the Adobe Camera Raw Plugin-only and is available now. Please try it out and let us know what works well, what doesn’t work well, and anything that might improve the experience.

It works better in photoshop.   It's still a welcomed addition to the tools in pse.

Hello Rikk,
I have now tested the new tool for removing distracting people under various conditions. Sometimes the tool does not find all people immediately. However, there is currently no way to reselect the tool so that the people who have not yet been removed can also be found. There should be a way to use the tool multiple times.

I have only used the people remove tool 3 times but each time it has removed all the people and only the people and the background has been replaced perfectly seamlessly. Absolutely brilliant!

When I've used this tool after applying light corrections it removes the person, but it leaves a ghostly white silhouette of the removed person. This has happened with remove object too. I try to remove a light post and it is the same result. A white silhouette.

Worked great.  It took out one person.  Also, part of the left/bottom connor was absurted by an object.  Took that out also.  It replaced with similar background.

This tool is really disappointing — it can’t even properly remove a full person from the image.

I like the tool However I would like to be able to tremove selectively. I removed a group of people than I look at the picture and deside to remove some other people without resetting the picture to it's initial state.

I suggest that upon closing the tool and re-opening to be able to remove again selectively from the remaining people in the picture. Similar how the Remove tool works. One can remove semething and get beck to remove more

This feature needs refining.  My experience is small children in school portrait sessions. The best shot may be with an adult hand in the shot to steady a toddler or infant. Sometimes it cannot detect the distraction but most times it completely distorts the background when removing the distraction.

I was shooting a car, and a passerby was visible above the roof. Lightroom's generative AI easily detected the distracting partial head peeking out from behind the vehicle, cloned it out perfectly, and seamlessly filled the background. Love the new feature!

A identificação de partes da pessoa, por exemplo quando sentada em um banco, o programa tem dificuldade em reconhecer todas as partes, exemplo, remove a cabeça e tronco, mas fica a perna... Também sinto que pode melhorar, com uma função de indicar onde está as pessoas que quer remover, muitas vezes identifica a pessoa que quer manter e a que quer remover não identifica. Mas de resto a ferramenta é incrível. Deixarei anexo um exemplo da pessoa no banco de igreja, para ver o que acontece!

The tool is Ok but has limitations particularly if the people are grouped and overlapping with other background.

One thing would be nice to have is a deselect option for parts it has identified, like on the normal tool where you can un-select by painting over the selction. If you have a person you want to keep but to remove others neearby it doesn't seem possible to deselct the subject person

Removal worked perfectly but left a cutout-- where the person is masked out the exposure is too high. Less important, the carpet is too bright

Just tried this for the first time. It worked correctly in a complex environment.

Remove distracting people doesn't know the difference between people and a house! Yes, it selected two distracting people, though as they were about half a mile away in the distance, I wouldn't call them distracting. Nice job.

However, it also selected a house which was about 30 feet above the people. And what was a house and certainly wasn't distracting, was replaced with a building of some discription which was distracting. It didn't even fit in with the surrounding buildings.

All the AI apps don't seem to be very good. What they produce is generally very poor in quality and bares little resemblance to what is asked or if left blank of the surrounding area of the object it is removing. Slower, but manual is best. And no removal of houses when selecting people for removal.

I thought I'd try again, and I did, twice with the same house again selected!
