Question

"Stain" left on image when using Remove with Generative AI

This seems to be a new problem with the latest version of ACR when using Remove with Generative AI: the content generated is slightly darker than the rest of the image, and there's a hard edge to the generated content. I don't recall this being an issue when using Generative AI before to remove objects. See the following screen shots that document the issue. Note how the generated content leaves a "stain" on the image where it removed the soft box.

Camera Raw 16.5

Make sure you are following this:

The recommended order for applying edits is:

  1. Denoise
  2. Heal (includes Generative AI Remove)
  3. Crop (includes traditional Cropping, Lens Correction, Transform, or any operation changing the geometry of the image, including round-tripping to PS to use Gen-Expand)
  4. Global Edits
  5. AI Selective edits (Sky, Person, etc)

Step 3 is critical here.  Heal must be performed before any edit that alters the geometry of the image.

Regarding Generative Remove differences in PS and the Photography Clients. It is important to remember the applications do not currently use the same version of the Firefly engine , and that there are differences in the selection capabilities of PS, which are much more sophisticated.  As time passes, these differences will likely shrink.

I understand what you're saying, but the result is still poor. Here is the result when *everything* is "zereoed out" on the image and I perform the Generative Expand function *first.* The expanded area (sky) is still darker and noiser than the base image.

Will do. Didn't know that thread existed.

If you follow the in-app link for feedback, it takes you to that thread.

Update: this behavior is NOT present when using AI generated functions in Photoshop. This is ONLY an issue with Adobe Camera Raw.

This still appears to be an issue with ACR 17.0
