P: Add editing notes to to images

It would be great to have a field for "personal notes" during the Lightroom Develop step. During my import workflow I walk through all of my picture the first time, delete bad ones and rate better ones with stars. Sometimes a good idea comes to my mind (how I could edit the picture), which I would like to fix to the photo. It would be perfect to have a comment field for personal usage, which gets saved in the Lightroom Catalogue, but not in the Metadata of the file. I thought of the implementation similar to the PDF comment feature in Mendeley. Each picture can get a note, at the end I can get an overview of all my notes, which are still to do. It would also be smart to implement the ability, to filter for photos with/without notes.A simple workaround, which is currently doable, to mark a picture with a certain color (which I associate with something), isn't enough. Similar to Mendeley.[Currently using Lightroom 3.6 / Win7 64bit]

Look up a plugin called Big Note - it's nice and simple so you can customize it yourself.

I have an Idea! This is something I find really hard to work without, and I'm sure many of you photographers/retouches will agree.

I would like to see a "note" section for photos whereby you can actually keep a small detail of notes regarding said pictures. I've bumped into many scenarios where this would have come handy, one of those scenarios was now. I have two family wedding photos that I will need to edit (Face swapping to correct closed eyes!) And I'm just choosing pictures to process. I'd find it so handy to be able to right click on the image/side panel or even in the film reel? part at the bottom and "add note" whereby you can write what needs to be done, or your reasoning to pick the photo etc. I have to rely on using note pad and writing in the image numbers and then adding a note. I then worry about loosing the notepad and forgetting what i am to do. I also think that handwriting support would be good for a note section, as many, well I at least use a tablet quite often, and switching between pen and keyboard can be a bit of a pain....

I do apologies if this is badly structured, I'm not the best when it comes to that, especially at 2am

Hello,

I'd like to suggest the implementation of an ability to add NOTES to an image, like a "triggerable" layer, where you can put circles and squares (stroked in bright red, yellow etc.) over certain areas of the image to highlight observations which can be read by yourself or other co-workers.

Something as if you can put some scratch notes on some areas of the image but when exporting or printing, these notes are ignored, not showing up on the final image. It would be just for informative purposes and/or to explain and show certain specifics of that image.

Would be great to see the possibility of appending notes to photos. I work as a fashion photographer and often two images need to be merged. Say the head from one image onto the body of another; or the hands of one, onto body of other.
Unless mistaken, there's no simple way of leaving a note for my retoucher.
Would be much more simple if, like in Photoshop, one could append a note and even link the note to another photo (for instance, when the note is opened, one would have a 400px x 400px preview of the image referred to..)

LR: In Library module, please allow randon notes to be typed in "Comments" area in right panel. This is very important to make notes about "external" processing done in other Plug-Ins and brought back to LR for final processing. "History" only shows image as exported and then re-imported. I have to be able to note which external editor I used and that's a perfect place. Thank you in advance.

Add ability to add notes to a picture file.
I would like to add notes from a client review in LR Mobile and have them available when I return to LR. Now I need to carry a notebook or constantly switch between apps.

For next LR update, I would suggest IMHO a very cool feature for photographers who usually work on team with retouchers. As a photographer, while on the shooting set, we mostly want to show retouchers areas of the picture we would like to be cleaned up or reworked. What about a function in LR where we could use for ie a tool like a pen or brush to mark out specific areas of the pictures for retouchers? It could be saved as a layer (TIFF or PSD) during final export and easily discarded once retouch done? Many thanks!

There is a large blank area under the tools in ACR. Can we please add a note area here so we can leave ourselves notes on how and WHY we choose to process an image a certain way, or for any other need for a note. Then in the synchronize command add a note check box.

More than a month ago, after that move from Adobe pushing every Lightroom user to the cloud-based services, I dropped my stand-alone Lightroom 6 (now it is just for DAM) and started learning CaptureOne Pro 11. It is another game altogether, much more control over colors, adjustments and it has actual layers - and the notes we asked for in this topic more than a year ago.

I'm now a happy camper with C1 Pro, my photos now get the look I want more easily. Looks like I'm out of Lightroom's bandwagon for good as I also won't fit to Adobe's policies.

Competition already has it: a Markup Layer to make Notes about necessary changes. Before i start to retouch a Photo, i create a Layer in Photoshop circling Areas that need my Attention. so i can later on check if everything is done.
When working with external Retouchers it could become helpful to add a Layer already to the XMS/DNG. Could be a Markup Cloud with a floating Note like seen in Acrobat.
Important to offer the same from Bridge as sometimes Lightroom is diverted via Bridge to gain some Speed.

I too, would like a notes section. I like to keep notes attached to the images, things like landowner contact info, times of year that I would like to go back to a landscape, etc. I have to keep those notes separately and they often get separated from the image. A calendar or reminders would be great too, so I don't miss something I want to go back for. 🙂

I'd really like a 'Notes' field in the develop module too!

Right now I'm curating a collection of images for a calendar which need a specific crop ratio. I need to make virtual copies of each image, crop and add them to a collection. Great, but in the original folder I now have two versions of the image with different crops and no explanation as to why.

I know future me is going to forget why I have several different crops of the same image, and what my preferred crop is.

My preference for location would just be in the RHS panel, under its own grouping similar to Meta Data in Lopue view. I don't need it to be stored in the RAW file's meta data, as long as it's visible and editable in Lr that's good enough for me.

I use Lightroom on my iPad for editing, then use PS on my Mac for all my retouching. Would be great if we could use grease pencil style annotations on the images (or as a layer?) Capture one has introduced this and it works great. Or maybe make a new app and call it Contact Sheet strictly for editing and sorting.

If only I could add an arrow (or circle an area in red or something of the sort) "on top" of a picture in LR and put a little note attached to this "arrow/marking" to effectively communicate with a retoucher on what I would like fixed/retouched in my file without having to open the file up in PS and add a layer (increases file size, takes too much time). The retoucher could then look at these notes, but then the notes could be "peeled" away to just work on the file... This would make my workflow (life!) SOooooo much more efficient. Pretty please!!

Here's a weird option. Hi-jack the "Person" type keyword capability. A regular keyword refers to the entire image but a keyword marked as a "person" type only applies to a rectangular section of an image. So, you can use that feature to mark rectangular areas with instructions as show below

Another option is to use screen capture software (e.g. HyperSnap) to take a screen shot of the imag and then use the drawing tools provided to mark up the image. Save as a small JPG and just send that along to the re-toucher with the full image

I just did this in the screen shot above in about 25 seconds

Thanks for merging this topic... I didn't originally know what to look for and search it as. Glad (or maybe sad?!) to see I'm not alone in looking for this functionality. I appreciate all the workarounds suggested... but I think EASY and SUPER FAST (without having to leave LR) are imperative to resolving this issue efficiently. I love my LR, but this isn't the first time that Capture One has come up as a fast and easy workaround/ solution... Hoping Adobe is working on this and that it comes to fruition sooner than later so I don't have to go learning another program! Fingers crossed!!

It would be perfect to have a notes field for personal usage, which gets saved in the Lightroom Catalogue, but not in the Metadata of the file. Bonus if the notes are searchable.

Example- I shoot music photography. I'd like to put random stuff like "guitar player for Hounds, prefers blue lighting, talked about conduits and Vegas" in my personal notes, then be able to search for it later.
