P: Support for Canon .CR3 Camera-matching Profiles

There is currently zero support for .CR3 camera color profiles in Lightroom... especially since the newer Canon cameras use a .CR3 format... making it difficult to get work done. Only slightly surprised that this wasnt planned for beforehand since there still isnt a 64bit version of the adobe programs that i can use on the most current version of MacOS.

The product isn’t keeping up with customers needs.  They no longer support many Canon users’ requirements.  This is feedback to Adobe... they can choose to ignore or they can address it.

And Canon's too:  Part of the reason (other than the $5K price tag LOL) I haven't upgraded to a R5 is the fact that my current EOS R has camera-matching profiles in Lightroom (which for MY use case, work great), and the R5 does not.

The issue is Canon is moving to a CR3 file format with all of their new higher end pro cameras, 1DX3, R5, and I’m speculating here but most likely new R3, etc.  this isn’t a “one off” file format where support is requested.  This is not an “off brand” or “obscure” camera - these are Canon’s flagships.  Adobe is no longer supporting the Canon flagship line of cameras in terms of matching color profile.

This should be a priority for Adobe unless they don’t mind losing a lot of their Canon customer base.  If they wait years to fix this, people will have already moved on with other solutions.  If I didn’t use the Lightroom filing system I would have already stopped using it and switched software.  As it is, I’m close to just switching anyway as the workflow is tedious.   Like many others here, I’m hopeful Adobe will address it.

Adobe not keeping up with Canon’s flagship cameras with their color profile to match canons jpeg output is making Lightroom increasingly more difficult to use as a go to solution.  Eventually customers will just give up and find other solutions outside of Lightroom.  It’s in Adobe’s best interest to resolve this.

It's relevant in this; you are paying for a product and getting it.

Adobe doesn’t promise anything, I’m not sure how that’s relevant.  The issue is Canon is moving to a CR3 file format with all of their new higher end pro cameras, 1DX3, R5, and most likely new R3, etc.

Where did Adobe promise to supply camera matching profiles for all cameras forever when “selling” a subscription to this product?

I have made the profiles as proof of concept in this forum. I have zero interest or intent to sell them.

@andrew_rodney  I’ve seen many of your posts here trying to give “DIY” alternatives.  The issue is people don’t want to recreate what they expect to be available in a paid Adobe subscription.  Many of us lack the time and or skill to do it ourselves, and to that end, if it was so easy why hasn’t Adobe done it yet?

Have you considered trying to create matching profiles and selling them?  You seem to have a lot of knowledge in this area.  I’d venture to guess some on this forum would be willing to buy it, as many of us have already purchased the color fidelity version with varying results.  What do you think?

You can (unsuccessfully) try.

You can make your own, edit existing DCPs or pay someone to do either.
