Hi there, I'm trying to create a full screen video demo on a macBook with retina display. The screen has a resolution 3072 x 1920, but the video size I get from Captivate when selecting 'full screen capture'  is 1792 x 1120. Does anyone know of a way to record at full resolution?
With thanks,  Julian

Hi Julian, welcome to the forum.

I am sorry but I am a Win user and not comfortable with Mac terminology. Capture is done 1 on 1 pixel. In Windows that is done by configuring the display resolution to 100%. Something similar should be checked out on your Macbook. If you don't use a huge external monitor I doubt that will be the case.

I learned from you this Mac term ''device pixel ratio''. You need to check that.

Do you use an external monitor? Could you find what to change for the display?

Thanks for the ongoing input Lilybiri!
I think it comes down to the device pixel ratio of the retina display (2:1 in my case) on the MacBook.
When I capture on a larger (2560 x 1440 / 1:1) external Thunderbolt display, I get the expected 2560 x 1440 output from Captivate.

I will try to remember the Mac term 'device pixel ratio'. Is it possible to mark my answer as being correct for future Mac users looking for a similar answer?

Despite being labelled as 1792 x 1120, the Captivate output from the Retina display is way clearer than the 2560 x 1440 video from the external monitor. This feels a bit counter-intuitive!

I reckon it’s got something to do with the way information is squished into the screen in the Retina display (the device pixel ratio). I doubt this is something you can alter in settings.
I think your answer is correct (ie hook up to a different monitor), or (if you're using a 2019 16" macbook like mine), your max screen size will be 1792 x 1120, but the output will still be fab!

OK, it is up to you although I could mark my answer as being correct (being moderator). I just ask this for other Mac users: the correct answer will appear at the top, and the thread will be marked.  Success with your endeavors. Normally you should indeed capture on the primary monitor. I am not sure that have done that: external monitor being primary?

I'll capture on the macbook because the resulting video, although smaller, is of a far higher quality – and will switch it to my primary monitor whilst I do this.
You'll have to forgive me being a newbie, I'm not sure about assigning correct answers! I'm certainly not sure mine is, but your advice to switch to a different screen deffo fixes the problem.

Thanks Liybiri, really appreciate your input.

I think my first answer gives the indicator where I talk about 1px/px. I will add your Mac term in that answer.

Under that answer you'll see 5-6 buttons, starting with Upvote. 5th button is Correct Answer.
