Hi All,

Just wondering if there is any official word from Adobe on compatibility between Captivate 8 and Windows 10 as yet?

Thank you kindly,

Nicole

I've not seen it mentioned in anything coming from Adobe so far. If it's not listed in the Tech Specs under system requirements then you need to assume for the moment that Cp8 is NOT compatible.

http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate/tech-specs.html

In the past when new versions of a major OS first came out, there were often issues with compatibility.  If you need Captivate to work on your OS and it's essential to your day-to-day productivity, DO NOT rush in and install the very latest OS and hope for the best.  Installing an OS is usually a one-way street (or at least VERY inconvenient to roll-back).

If it turns out that Cp8 does NOT work with Windows 10, past experience with similar issues (e.g. Captivate 6 with Windows 8) suggests you could be told that you need to upgrade to the next latest version of Cp to get compatibility. If a patch is released for the older version to be compatible, you may be waiting weeks or months for it.

Well it is almost September and as I read thru these posts I really don't see any good news about Captivate 8.1 and Windows 10. Correct answer dated June 14, 2015 is, well dated. Any news? OOpps I clicked that link above to the CP 8 system requirements and win 10 has been added. You'd think some sort of communication to users might have made sense... but no just one word - disgusting

It has been working just fine on my machine.... I made the recommended

changes in this thread just to be sure but other than that... I just used

it out of the box.

Hi all-

I did not find this forum until after I had upgraded to Windows 10. My first launch of Captivate 8 after that seemed to work but then crashed at the end and the recording was lost. I then went looking and was bummed to find this forum. However, I have good news for all. I have figured out how to fix Captivate 8 to work just fine on Windows 10. I've done several recordings with no issues.

The main problem is that if you upgrade Windows from 7 or 8, Windows 10 does strange things with access control over directories. This is easily fixable. You need to find the following THREE directories and right click on them and hit Properties. Then go to Security tab. Then where it says "To change permissions, click Edit" do exactly that. Once you are in, select your main user login for your computer and under Allow, check Full Access. This is what was lost and it prevents Captivate from saving the files, which is all that is wrong (Captivate itself works fine, it just fails because it can't save, cache, or do anything with the file).

The directories are:

c:/program files/adobe/adobe captivate x64 (might be program files(x86) if you are using 32-bit version)

documents/adobe captivate cached projects

documents/My Adobe Captivate Projects

You MUST give your login username back FULL ACCESS under security to each of these. Then Captivate works fine.

I tried to implement this fix, but was still greeted with an error while attempting to do anything within Captivate.

My AVG software says that there's a program in the TMP folder that needs permission to run. It recommends blocking it, but, knowing that it's from Captivate, I allow it. I am then able to run the program. I click on Responsive Project. I click to do anything at all - program has a fatal error.

Sadly, this happened before when I was working with Captivate in Windows 8.1. They fixed it and apparently need to do the same thing for Windows 10.

Thanks for sharing this, though.

I cannot find it (Captivate 8) on my computer since I updated to Windows 10.  I have a subscription.  Should it show up in the cloud app or on my start menu?

Sounds like you didn't see this post I put up some weeks ago.

Why Captivate users SHOULD NOT immediately install Windows 10.

I saw it. Captivate is not critical to my business. I just thought maybe

I was not looking in the right place. Should Captivate show up in my Adobe

Cloud?

All great comments, just wondering if anyone has actually tried it and if it completely fell over or worked with minor bugs? Just curiosity more than anything else, certainly not going to try it on my work computer

There are already some users reporting issues, varying from MathMagic not working, over having problems opening files, to even not being able to start Captivate again.

If you want to try beta-testing compatibility CP8 and Win10, you're welcome but personally I prefer playing safe.

Same with the collaboration between CP8 and the last release of CC. Some things are broken.

If you're looking to build a stable platform for Captivate, you should refer to the Adobe documentation on supported platforms, available here:

System requirements: Windows

  • 1GHz or faster Intel Pentium 4, Intel Centrino, Intel Xeon, or Intel Core Duo (or compatible) processor
  • Microsoft Windows 7 with Service Pack 1, Windows 8, or 8.1

RodWard‌'s warning are the best advice for most Captivate users.

Unless you are independently wealthy; using Captivate to develop for a customer who is pressing you to use Windows 10; or using Captivate in an advanced, well supported environment, and your IT team has a commitment to support you above and beyond the normal support hours, jumping early into Windows 10 will likely be a decision you regret.

Thanks for the replies everyone - very much what I was thinking/ have found also. Here's hoping they officially announce their Windows 10 plans soon.

My guess is that Adobe Captivate 9 will be announced before the Adobe Learning Summit and DevLearn 2015 which kick off on September 28th. That release ought to be Windows 10 compatible. If you are not on subscription you might have to depend on a patch issued for 8 and possibly earlier Captivate versions.  One of the sessions at DevLearn is about Captivate 9 so I'm pretty sure it will be out soon.
