Hi, Captivate Classic user here, very excited to develop a trial project in Cp. I want to brand the project with my company's logo in a header or footer area as an svg or, if necessary, a png. In Classic, I can upload an svg, resize it appropriately, and position and layer it on the slide. In CP,  I can only find how to insert a full-width Image and caption block or a three-column SVG block. Is there an option in CP for branding a project with a logo for our employers/clients? Thank you!

Did you ever create a responsive project in Captivate Classic? It is possible to create a fluid box at the bottom or the top to insert a logo indeed, even on a master slide (except the main master slide which cannot be used in a Fluid Boxes project). It is possible there, and you are correct that at this moment that is a lot of trial and error in the new Captivate. Especially SVGs have gotten lot more limitations.

    Hi Lilybiri,

First, thank you so much for always taking time out of your day to answer our questions. I've learned so much from your responses over the years! Yes, I've been able to brand Captivate Classsic projects using Fluid Boxes in footers and then inserting an SVG logo file set to display on every slide.  I was hoping to be able to do something similar, even as a cut-and-paste image that could float a bit, but that's o.k. I'm going to brand using company colors, font (thank goodness it's now a system font in CP!) and use the company name in the text. Thanks again!

I was on the webinar today about the new Captivate, and it sounded like "Classic Captivate" will stop being supported in 2027. Also sounds like we won't be able to use files created in Captivate 2019 in the new Captivate. I told my supervisor we should make a plan for re-creating our courses in a supported platform, and she really does not want to do that because we have so many courses and our team is small. She asked what would happen if we just keep using Captivate 2019 after it is no longer supported. Seems risky to me, but am I being too uptight? What would happen if we just keep using it?

Hi Basla, nice that you were on that call! Was there anything else interesting that you can share with us?

Re your question, it is -very- risky to use software after it is unsupported--bugs, security patches, updates to become compatible with new hardware and interent demands... I think of it this way: There is good reason that there are constant patches, updates, and versions, much of which we don't even know is being updated because with a subscription-based cloud-based thing, it "Just Magically Happens" in the back room. 🙂

Here is my personal opinion though - Cp 2019 is for now a superior tool, and many professionals are staying with it and refusing to use the "New Captivate" until enough bugs are worked out. So if I were you, as a pro in an organization, I would keep using 2019 for a little while, but not too long :-). In your (and your org's) shoes, I would build all new courses in the New Captivate, not right away, but for sure within a year or so. This way you'll have a chance to get accustomed to the new software, and your "older courses" created in Cp 2019 will still be on supported software for a couple of years.

And I honestly do think that Adobe will get Cp2023 (Is that how we should call it? I am unsure! I saw others call it Cp 12 so I was also using that term...) up tp snuff. They are working hard and the engineers are taking bug reports and feature requests seriously. (Honestly, I think Adobe knows that if they don't pull it together then folks are going to switch to 360! Do a 180 and run to 360, haha!)

This is all just my opinion! 🙂 Stick with 2019 for the short term, but soon, when the New Captivate is useable, start using it. What do you think? And what do others here think?

    -Lisa

p.s. I think what some people don't realize is, I am pretty sure that the new Captivate is not even just an update or modification to previous versions, but a Whole Entire New From Scratch product, where Adobe was not even at much of an advantage over some random startup in terms of having a base of code from which to work. So I think that even though we've all been impatient for it to be released, my beliefe and hope is that now, it wll be fixed. It really is still in beta mode in my opinion. We are the beta users! 🙂 So for you in your org, you prob cannot afford the time to be a beta user. Me, I can, because I d not have 2019 and cannot use it because of M1 incompatibility--so I am starting my new career on this new software!

@Lisa31013337pg2c  This version was in testing releases since 2019....

You can use CP2019, version 11.8 on M1 chip.

None of the projects for my clients, nor the multiple courses I created as examples on my blog site, can be created with the new version of Captivate. That means that recreation is impossible at this moment. It is indeed a completely new application, but with a loss of many features and workflows. Since you never used CP before this new application, you can not fully understand what I mean.

Could you please provide some explanation, guides, or instructions on how conversation slides are supposed to work? They are either broken, or are completely unintuitive and difficult to use. I spent half-a-day trying to figure them out to no avail.

This could be a new functionality to Captivate that would be quite useful, but as the covnersations slides are at this point, they don't seem to be able to do more than one turn of a conversation. That is, more than just one utterance from each speaker.  After that, it seems impossible to make the conversation continue, (as real conversations do), with more utterances. The turns are called "scenarios," (which is a terrible term to use, because traditionally with e-learning, a scenario is a whole sequence of slides). I am able to attach audio to each turn of a scenario, but then only the audio plays, and the text cards don't continue to appear. This is even more broken with infinite scroll, because it's not clear how the additional turns of the conversation (or the additional scenarios) are supposed to be triggered.  Are they automatic with infinite scroll? Well, if so, then they're not working. What would make the most sense is that--with infinite scroll--the subsequent turns of the conversation are triggered by the scrolling.

If you could make it work like that, this would be an amazing tool.

I've been excited about this, but unfortunately, northing works.  When I open an existign project I get a spinny that never stops spinning. If I try a new project I get the following:

"An unexpected error has occurred, which may cause Captivate to bahave unexpectedly.  You can restart Captivate with backed-up project.

    Not a very good start.

Does this version work with ARM processors?

I reached out to support, which just sent me to the specs that I already looked at. Can someone tell me a definitive answer? Yes or NO?

    Thank you!

I am working with the new Captivate and I can't figure out how to control the video. The video plays as soon as the slide shows. I thought I could create an action that disabled the media On Entry but that isn't the case. Even with the infinite scroll, and the video at the bottom of the page, it starts playing on entry. I can't figure out how to control it.

You are supposed not to control, but let Captivate control (sorry, couldn't wait to release that sarcastic statement, my complaint about a lot of control loss compared with previous versions).

You don't tell which type of video you inserted, I suspect it is slide video? In that case insert a bookmark as close as possible to the start (I managed 0.1sec) and choose the action 'Pause Timeline'.

I'll add a few notes as I go. If other also experience these issues, please give my post a like, so Adobe can see it's not just me - thanks! 🙂

Not: It would be very useful if you could pin the Timeline bar to the bottom on the active window. When I resize the window, it occassionally disappears. Also, typically, I would go to the bottom-right to re-size the window, but am unable to adjust from that point.

I logged that bug during the prerelease: contrary to the former versions, Best Fit will not adapt when you open the Timeline panel (which also can become so big that it covers the whole stage). Best fit is the default setting, you have to change it manual to a smaller resolution. One positive point: shortcut keys still work for that.

BTW Upvoting an answer in such a long and diverse thread will not at all guarantee that the team sees this. I wished the former way to log bugs and requests were still available from the eLearning community but I am not even able to post anything since many months.

I've been waiting so long for this update and am eager to try it, but I am experiencing issues straight away.
I am 'playing' with the interface and trying different layout with a pre-defined page layout, that contains images, but all I get it the error saying - Something went wrong while content block insertion.

It seems to be an issue with widgets and loading images, as it allows me add a video media block and I can edit the layout (from the right panel).

I have installed it twice on this Windows machine with little success. The machine is recently new and the specs are:

    (i9-12900 (2.4Ghz) - 64GB RAM - Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 - 2 x 1TB SSDs.

The irony is, it works on my colleagues, less powerful laptop.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, We have an organizational subscription for Captivate 2019 and I'm trying to download the all new Captivate, but it won't work - says my admin people have to get invovled, but you won't let organizational admin into the downloads area apparently. Any ideas please as the Adobe apps available for download has't been updated since the launch of this new version. I would have hoped it would automatically be available in my apps and personal account area for user ease, but it's not. I'm eager to get started with the new version but we're going in loops at the moment to access it! Any adivce appreciated Thanks 🙂

This is a question for the staff in the first place. I just pop in with a small tip because I have both CP2019 and version 12 installed on a system. Of course you need admin rights for installation, but make sure you first update your CP2019 version to 11.8.2 (can be done using the Update under the Help menu).

Than download the installation file, but only from the US site:

    I admit, so far, I'm a little under-whelmed.

While it's nice to have a sim capture tool that actually captures my screens (unlike 2019 on the Mac), I am baffled at the very minimal controls available, to say nothing of an inability to add any assets to my capture screens.  For example, I want to add a text block or a shape to provide some instructions and then let the user proceed with the task at hand. I have no issues doing so on a blank slide, however.

I've also managed to trigger a crash where a blank Captivate window remains on screen but will not close.
I hope for some fixes soon, otherwise I might just stick with Classic.

    Underwhelmed is an understatement!
After working on the beta for many months, the long awaited (fanfare suppressed) version that is already causing confusion with its name is here. It's not Captivate. It's not even close. It's the toy you play with when you're bored, not on a deadline and don't have some serious eLearning to develop. And why do I say that?

    Here's why.

    1. Massively reduced compatibility - must have latest version of MacOS to run. Crashes all the time.
    2. Reduced workflow capability -  unable to undock panels to place on other screens.
    3. UX - no consistency with naming conventions, control areas, process and publishing.
    4. I guess this is UX/UI but having to do so many clicks to get what you want is annoying as hell.
    5. Inability to position and stack objects where you want them - that's the dealbreaker for me.
    6. Flaky behaviour - crashes while doing seemingly unrelated tasks. Doesn't autosave pre-crash.
    7. What Asset library?
    8. Object styles, master pages and themes. There's a notion towards it, but I wouldn't consider the effort useful at all. Expecting people to remake stuff from scratch all the time is ridiculous. You must think we have all the time in the world and no deadlines. Dealbreaker.
    9. Adobe seems to think that we all need a fully responsive layout instead of the features we've had for ages.
Fact: 90% of my market don't deliver to a mobile environment so all this "how cool is it that we can engage in an eLearning course while we're on the train" is complete BS.
When you have clients that have huge network security (think Govt.) they wouldn't allow this anyway.
Anyone in the business knows that targeting Desktop OS and browser platforms is hard enough, but having to manage all the drama that comes with targeting mobile platforms is in many cases a complete waste of time and effort.
    10. I have a huge library of really useful Javascript functions that allow me to add great value to my eLearning applications.
You guessed it - that's unusable with the latest version too.

There are plenty more things that irritate me about Charm (I refuse to call it 'Captivate', 'The New Captivate', or anything else that uses that word), but surprisingly I did see one thing that I really like about it. Just one:
The ability to create Bookmarks (c'mon Adobe, just call 'em cuePoints like everyone else does) and actually assign actions to those cuepoints. It means that as the timeline plays, you can trigger actions, call Javascript functions etc.
    About time.

So shoot me, Adobe. I really thought you were going to come out with something flash and greatly improved.
I will continue to support my clients that have CP2019 projects until it is given a decent burial, but right now there's no way I could suggest to them that we continue with whatever this new iteration is.  Most of what you see here is available on Kando and other platforms.
If I have to install Parallels and run Windows and Storyline 360 on my Mac, I will. If I can get better UX, UI and still get fully responsive layouts then I could even use an open source tool like Tumult Hype.
But one thing I'm sure of is that I will continue sending you a bunch of money every month for my CC subscription and my CP2019 subscription while it lasts. But unless you give us some hope that you're able to at least match the capabilities of CP2019 I reckon me an thousands of eLearning developers will be like rats on the Titanic. Running like crazy.

And for those of you that think that I'm just some crazy old coot with nothing else to do but complain, I'll say that I've been using Captivate since before it was Captivate. I've been in this industry longer than some of you have been alive, and I really, truly was hoping that after such a long wait, with missed deadlines and broken promises littering the floor, that we'd have something to work with that was better than we have already.
