Any real answer on a webcam yet?

Hi all,

I was wondering if there was ever a real answer for a good webcam for CA?

Ive read quite a few posts, and most are based on Mac. I have a windows 10 -64bit pro OS.

I saw a few mentions about workarounds, and not good focus, etc., so ive deffinitely done my homework. I even searched youtube (which made the question worse). So does anyone have any suggestions for a good webcam for CA is my basic question? But truthfully (to get something off my back). Why does selling botteled water from $1 to $2 a bottle get you a trip to the front of the line to a firing squad. for "gouging"? But selling a webcam that was $89 for $400 not get you the same condemnation? Thats the thought for the day.

Anyway,

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The problem with no-name cameras is that they often have both poor sensors and poor optics. The cheap sensors in no-name cameras result in poor handling of low light and side-lighting conditions.  This can lead to poor tracking.

Logitech cameras are usually a good bet.  I suggest you look at C930e or C920/C922/C925e.  Any of those should work well.

I would agree. I doubt the camera quality matters *that* much. It just has to pick up your eye positions, mouth position, head etc. As long as it can detect that, job done. You don't see the video afterwards. Lighting might be more important than the camera. If there is not enough contrast etc in the footage, then it will have troubles.

Oh, I lied, it was a $49.99 camera from B&H. For the money I am satisfied. I would be happier if it was $20. Probably it's true value pre-coronovirus.

Works fine even for some Premier Pro work.

Hi Vincent. I have been a videographer for 20+ years and I can say that the subject and message are more important than the quality of the camera. I use a $40 web cam for my CH work and it is fine. A $20 would probably look just as good if I could have found one.If you plan to use the web cam as the video source then I would say a $40 cam would be adequate if it is FHD resolution (1920x1080). I have made great videos using my cell phone. I have used $4,000 cameras and when all is said and done it looks great. However, I would want to show it on the big screen. I hope this helps.

Curious as to what webcam you are using that you purchased for $40.

I am looking at this logitech c615 webcam for around $70.  It seems to have the appropriate resolution and compatible with windows 10 64 bit: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/logitech-hd-webcam-c615-black/2588445.p?skuId=2588445

Keeping my eyes open for cheaper options that seem just as good for under $30: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/logitech-hd-webcam-c270-black/9928354.p?skuId=9928354

Any thoughts on either of these options?  Thanks
