Character rigging issues

It seems like lately every time I add a new propt or hand or anything into the PSD for any of my puppets character animator will heavily shift a different layer to a random place. Idk if maybe when you add something it changes the origin of different layers. for example I added a cable as an independent layer in the frontal position of a puppet and the head layer in the right quarter angle shifted down like 5 feet and I had to manually move it all back into place in character animator when in the PSD it is all aligned correctly. Any ways to avoid this as I am dealing with a massive amount of puppets and layers and any ways to save time is very big.

You've summed it up in a nutshell. Changing the dimensions of the original puppet causes problems. Fortunately, there's a workaround. Create a new layer for your new changes. Brand new layers and groups cannot cause issues since there's nothing to refer to. This is especially useful when adding props and even hands. Just make a new layer or copy a layer and everything is fresh and new. Will it work? I was just doing it this morning, so I think it's worth a try.

hmm I hear what you are saying, however everything I add in is always it's own layer and usually if it's an arm it will also be an independent layer marked with the (+) symbol. It seems things get shifted mostly if I add a propt to the "head" folder in any angle. (my puppets are usually set up with a head and a body folder for all angles.)

Interesting. In my case, I needed a hand holding a laptop, so I created a duplicate of one of the hand layers and added the laptop to it without any issues. I think what confuses the program is modifying an existing layer.
