Mouth Puppet

New Here ,

I'm new to character animator and am wondering if I could create a puppet with just a mouth, nothing else. I would like to either make my owns mouths or edit premade puppets so I can just have the mouth. I want to then upload my prerecorded audio to this mouth. Then I want to take this mouth recording and place it something else on a separate platform. Is this possible?

It sounds possible. I think you would still need a head, but you could make that transparent. This video should help you place the "head' over the video like you wamt: How To Animate Your Head (Adobe Character Animator Tutorial)

Yeah so I'm making a cartoon on this software called vyond. Just want to be able to put mouths that I make in character animator onto the characters in vyond. I just wanted to be sure I could do what I want before I buy. So are you for sure I could make everything except the mouth transparent? And I would be able to put the mouth on top of something else and you would just see the mouth? Like nothing else would be blocking the thing I'm trying to paste the mouth on? If so, could you possibly show me an example of this or tell me how to do this?

No, I cannot say with certainty that you can do this thing, as there are a lot of possible things that could get in the way of what you want to do. While it works pretty well, Character Animator still sometimes behaves unpredictably depending on your hardware configuration. Additionally, I do not know if the software by itself is available without an Adobe subscription - mainly because it needs other programs (like Photoshop or Illustrator) to edit its content. I am surprised that the software you mention does not offer mouth synchronization. In my experience, I don't think this will get you the results you are looking for.

Oh yeah Vyond does do lip sync. And it's solid. But you can't see syllables being pronounced or can't convey emotion while talking. I already have a plan to get around this but I was just seeing if I could do this instead. And yeah I would have illustrator or photoshop to edit the puppet, I'm just trying to see if I could get rid of everything besides the mouth.

The only other thing I could think of is if I just created puppets that look like my characters in vyond and put them in the vyond background. I'm just not sure I have the knowledge or talent to do that. lmk if you have any tips.

Would there be some way to take an image of my characters and turn them into puppets without drawing them myself? Or is that not a thing?

You can certainly convert a static image into a puppet. Essentially, you would break it into layers in Photoshop or Illustrator and import the resulting file into Character Animator. This video shows you the complete process so you can determine if it's something you're willing to do. The video uses a static image created with AI, but the process is the same. Making Animated Characters with AI Art (Adobe Character Animator Tutorial)
