Swap Pupils&Eyeballs

Hello everyone,

and sorry in advance for my broken english.

I´m personally not experienced in Photoshop, so figuring out how to mask an eyeball so my pupils can move inside was quite a challenge. No idea how i figured it out. Yet now i wanted to give my puppet some different kind of looks by switching eyeball shapes and pupils, but i can´t make it work.  Im already familiar with swap sets, but it doesnt help. Not sure how to hierarchy/group the extra layers.

There are some weird things happening, like pupils moving involuntarily without me triggering it in any way, or not moving at all.

Also, the already problematic eyeballs, now only come on the top of the old, regular eyeballs.

Here are my PS and CA screentshots, maybe someone had the same experience.  Thank you in advance.

I solved this by adding the amazing auto blink option which replaces flawlessly every pair of eyes.

i cannot move the pupils other than the first ones in the hierarchy, but that´s okay. i like it the way it is already! thanks for you impulses community!

Are all those pupil layers tagged as a pupil? That might be causing issues if that's what they were named and auto-tagged on import - ideally you only want one tagged right pupil and one tagged left pupil, which would be the parent folder. In Character Animator, check out Red Monster's changing pupil setup - that's a good guide to follow.

Thanks Dave 🙂

I did exactly that initially and different pupils worked. But i needed the eyeballs and their masks to switch too, so i created a specific folder for each sort of eye.

Now I retagged every pupil correctly (which is probably not the best idea, now that many layers have the same function) and now only my confused set can move and blink. the other ones i can activate but they cant move or blink. i assume only confused set works cause it is the first one in hierarchy.

but i´d like all the pupils and their eyeballs to be able to do that 😕😕

Hello. I don't know if you've seen this or not, but here is a useful video for setting up all kinds of eyes. Maybe you'll find your answer in there. Basic Eye Rigging (Adobe Character Animator Tutorial) - YouTube

Regarding eye swapping, I do not know if it will work or not, but maybe create a swap set for each eye, including the sub-layers. So you would have an eye, and inside that layer would be a layer for each swap, with each of those swap layers including sub-layers for blink, pupil and so on.

hey, thanks for your reply. i will try. tho some of the new pupils dont have new special eyeballs. should i duplicate the normal eyeballs and paste underneath the new pupil group?

this situation is really unusual, cause when my character is resting, eye gaze deactivated, the pupils are moving left, up, down periodically, altough im not doing anything and the video is stopped.

Seems like blink wasn´t necesarry in every group. I can finally swap them, without them layering on top of each other, but the pupils dont move, neither does the blink function work 😕😕
