Triggers greyed out/not working

I downloaded one of the template Character styles. However I can't seem to get the Character Triggers to work. They are greyed out. They stay greyed out when I hit "record"? Any help here would be apprceiated.

I made a puppet using that template from Puppet Maker and I cannot replicate the issue that you're having. The controls work fine when I click on them and use the keyboard shortcuts. When do they work and when do they stop working?

 

UPDATE: There definitely appears to be a difference in behavior between the downloaded template instead of the one built in to CH Pro. I do not know if this is a problem that has been addressed in the beta release or not.
