CF8 won't accept PWD

Community Beginner ,
Mar 03, 2008 Mar 03, 2008
I have installed CF8 on WinXP Pro after carefully removing traces of CF7 and earlier installs of CF8. I get the Administrator login page in IE. When I enter the PWD I entered during install, the page simply reloads. The Username is admin (in gray). If I enter a different (wrong) PWD, I get an invalid entry response. Using the correct PWD only gets me a reload. What is going on? How do I fix this?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Disabling ZoneAlarm and my anit-virus software did the trick. There ought to be something in the Install dialogs to alert users to this need.

I did this before uninstalling the previous installation and got a pretty clean uninstall, only the Verity files were left.

Thanks to all who helped with this.

what web erver are you using with it? The built-in one, IIS, or something else?

I'm using IIS at 127.0.0.1:8100. The behavior is essentially the same in both IE and Firefox. When I enter the correct PWD, the login screen refreshes. If I enter a "wrong" PWD, I get the "invalid password" message.

Any Ideas?

You don't have cookies disabled or blocked by some type of spam filter
or firewall do you ? Without cookies your login can not stick and you
will always end up back at the login screen.

check the worker threads setting in the IIS app pool used by the CF site (usually the default site). If it is higher than 1, it can cause some strange behaviours with page loads.

We had a similar issue with our webmail service on IIS and as soon as we changed the worker threads back to 1 it was fine.

I have cookies enabled for localhost in Firefox, IE and ZoneAlarm. I have set the IIS applications setting to Low (IIS Process). I don't know zip about worker threads, but I'll try that if you'll tell me how to get to the app pool.

Thanks for everyone's help so far

thanks. I guess I'll delete the install and reinstall with ZA and Anti-Viros off.

i believe it is mentioned in the installation instructions on the adobe
site and in the cf8 docs... but you are right, there is no warning
during the actual install about it.

the problem with firewall running during install is, iirc, that ports
required by cf are blocked... not sure what the problem with antivirus
is, probably something to do with it trying to scan the files being
written to disk, and causing the files not to be written properly...
