ColdFusion 2016 Standard on machine with 4 vCPU

Hi,

according to the EULA the standard edition license is good for up to 2 cores.

We are planning to setup a server (Ubuntu 16.04) on Amazon AWS with a m4.xlarge instance, which is a 4 vCPU machine. Standard edition would be good enough for us (feature-wise), but can we run CF on this instance just using 2 cores, or will the installer fail? We don't want to use an instance from the marketplace, because enterprise edition is overkill and too expensive. Other option would be running on m4.large which comes with 2 vCPU, but we would like to have the 2 more vCPU for the system itself and not for CF.

Best regards and thanks.

The installer won't fail. I'm not sure how the 2-core limit is enforced (whether it's in the server to only use two cores or not).

If you want to try it without running the installer, check out Commandbox with cfengine=adobe@2016 - this will download and spin up a CF2016 instance without any install process or monkeying with your existing ports.

Hi,

the installer won't fail and you will be able to use CF standard edition. IIRC, the CPU core limit is not enforced in any way.

However, if you want to use standard edition on a 4 core machine, you need to either use the machine's/OS's features to limit the CPU core usage or buy two standard licenses.

Cheers

Chris
