Question

Coldfusion 2021 migration and license

Hi

We have an application running on a hosted server that has CF11 installed.

We have a copy of this application running on another server that has Lucee installed.

We want to replace both of these with a single hosted VM server and upgrade to 2021 standard edition (total users across both servers is less that 250).

My main concern is that FAQ for CF 2021 says the standard edition license is $2500 per 2 cores. The entry level option for most hosted VM servers (certainly around here) is 4 CPU and who knows how many cores that is.

The server I want to migrate to is a hosted VM server that will do other things than by  a CF server and it has 12 cores.

So what are my options?

Accept that CF is not a solution for small businesses and ditch it for Lucee?

Is there a way to install standard on a 12 core machine but have it limit itself to 2 cores so that it does not violate the license?

Are there other options?

Thanks in advance

Neal

Neal, can you update the post later with what you find? I would have thought that the answer to your last question would be "no", at least not with the typical license.
