Well sorry for waisting your time m8!, I just thought that Discussions in Getting Started was a good place to ask newbie questions after running a search in the livedocs a place that specializes in cf related questions and not getting much help back "http://community.adobe.com/help/search.html?l=coldfusion_product_adobelr&requiredfields=book:Adobe%2520ColdFusion%25208&self=1&q=neq" I decided to ask in a place I thought I would get a quick and direct answer back... I will google all my newbie questions from now on, and once again sorry to be a bother.

And don't think im not greatfull for your answer cause I am, I spent hours searching google for other questions and I only have a few hours per day to work on my project and learn cfml/html/css/sql and I know thats not your problem so sorry if I come across as a a**h*** looking for a quick fix.

ps. thanks Ian Skinner your a star.

Don't get arsey.  We're just amusing ourselves: it's Friday!

Well, seriously... if you're after a quick fix, learning what the resources are to help yourself are - in the long run - gonna be far more beneficial than someone just blurting out the answer to you.  Which is the reason I pointed you to the resources to find out the answer as well as telling you what the answer was.

ps. thanks Ian Skinner your a star.

Fine.  Don't mind me.

well let this serve as a warning to all newbies! "we like to make fun of you! with no consideration for your feelings!" I mean why bother using PM's to poke fun, hell it's Friday...

No, Don't mind me m8, you carry on "amusing" your selves and I'll try not to get "arsey"

Just to let some people know.

The only reason that my post did not contain links to the documenation and|or google searches, was that Adam beat me to the punch.

Thanks to his seven or eight hour advantage on me, he often gets to these posts before I can!  I suspect he is trying to win whatever award one gets for earning all the points!

Heh.  Because - like - you're short of points, Ian.  You're the teacher's bloody pet, mate!

I do actually sometimes question WhyTF I bother trying to help people here.  This thread being one of those times.

Anyhow... just started a new job in which I am closer to the bottom of the ladder than the top (that's a bit of a rude awakening!), so I shan't be responding quite so much here as I usually do, as they seem to have an expectation of me doing some work (cheeky buggers).  So I should be getting less in the way of you and your points from now on ;-)

I googled "coldfusion neq", and the first, second and third results all had the answer you're after.  The third result is from the CF docs themselves (albeit the ones for CFMX v6.0).

So maybe that is a tactic to use for finding stuff out in future.  This time around... here's the relevant page of the current docs:

http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/9.0/Developing/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811cbec09d55-7ffc.html#WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811cbec09d55-7ff9

Which says, in short, this:

Operator

Description

IS

EQUAL

EQ

Perform a case-insensitive comparison of two values. Return True if the values are identical.

IS NOT

NOT EQUAL

NEQ

Opposite of IS. Perform a case-insensitive comparison of two values. Return True if the values are not identical.

HTH.

Hey Adam, is that Google thing something new?

Perhaps this will help: http://tinyurl.com/y688a68

Hey Adam, is that Google thing something new?

It's just something I've been working on in my spare time: it's kind of a document indexer thingey.  "Google" is just a code name whilst I develop it, when it's released, I'm going to call it "Search Engine".

I only have time to work on it in those few moments I have between copying&pasting URLs to the CF docs for people here.  Progress is - accordingly - rather slow.
