Creative Cloud installs new versions of apps but does not remove old versions. Is it safe to remove the old versions? Is there anything to do before removal?
For example, I now have 3 versions of Bridge, Premiere Pro, Illustrator and more...
you have the option to remove older versions. and yes, once you're comfortable with a new version, it's safe to uninstall the old.

Do I need to back up the preferences of the old versions or are they automatically transferred to the new version?

It's safest to back update preferences first. You might want to back them up anyway so you don't risk losing them at an inopportune time.
In addition, many of us keep one previous version in case there is an issue with the current version, especially the day after the new versions were released yesterday (October 14).
